Teaching Music: Tanya's Kodály Aspiring Blog: Songs with games
http://tanyaelementarymusic.blogspot.com/p/downloads.html
September 29, 2013 at 5:43 PM. I love this song for so many reasons, but I put my own spin on this game which my students absolutely love. Plus I can assess several concepts at once. Concepts taught: sol, mi, la; steady beat; timbre; call/response. 1 One kid is the apple picker and sits facing away from the rest of the class as they sing the song. 2 As the song is sung, the kids pass the apple on the beat until the last word out. 3 At the end of the song the kids sing Who has the apple? Who has the apple?

Teaching Music: Tanya's Kodály Aspiring Blog: Christmas Centers
http://tanyaelementarymusic.blogspot.com/2014/12/christmas-centers.html
Monday, December 15, 2014. Hello and happy almost-to-winter-break! I've noticed that the closer we get to the two-week break, the more distracted the students get. I've been trying something different this year to channel their energy- Christmas centers! The class is divided into four groups and they have about 7 minutes at each center. Each grade level has 2 centers focused on a rhythm or melodic concept they've been working on and 2 centers focused on Christmas music. Here is an example with 4th grade:.

http://songbirdserenade.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2015. I can't believe that the school is halfway over! Along with grades I send home a list of our accomplishments to each family. This year is my first year in this building and I am really working on providing a well rounded experience. I have been very spoiled and the wonderful teacher before me has every resource your heart could desire! It has actually been difficult figuring out what to teach! I was thrilled when I found this clip art! Here are the sources from Kindergarten:.

Songbird Serenade: New School, New Room!
http://songbirdserenade.blogspot.com/2014/08/new-school-new-room.html
Thursday, August 21, 2014. New School, New Room! Today is my first day working in my classroom. Teachers officially start on Monday, but I really need to get a head start. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the teacher I am replacing was in the position for 24 years. This will be a big adjustment for the kids. Over the summer the carpets were done so I am starting with a clean slate. As you will see in the pictures, I am very spoiled in this space. Here is what I am starting with:. Have a great day!

Thoughts on a Workshop: KMEA Part 1. This Thursday-Saturday Kansas music educators braved the weather to develop their skills and fill up their teacher tool box with great ideas to bring back to their classrooms and students. I want to share with you some of the highlights from the sessions I went to. Maybe you will learn something new (like I did) or maybe it will make you want to reach out to these people and have them come present in your area! The last session I went to was presented by David Row.

The general music classroom. For the life long learner, discoverer, and investigator in all things music education. Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Feedback and guiding my students to be conversational with their learning. This year I have spent time reflecting on the fact that while my students tend to be phenomenal performers, the moment they are asked to verbalize what they are doing.crickets. Here is one tool that has been a gem in my classroom! Beginning polyrhythmic reading activity. To support their observa...
