Santa Maria Council #2829. Santa Maria Council #2829 received their Charter from the Supreme Council on April 27, 1941. We are the sixth oldest Council in the State. St Leo the Great Catholic Church. Our Church Committee focuses on projects that help out our Church, St Leo the Great Catholic Church here in Winston-Salem. North Carolina State Men's Retreat. We help feed about 300 people at the annual Parish Picnic by cooking and organizing the food distribution. We will be hosting our Second Annual Men’s Retreat in February. Our Culture of Life Committee focuses on preserving the sanctity of life from the womb to the tomb. We do this through our support of Birthright with whom we share similar goals. We also participate in the local Life Chain lining up down Hanes Mall Blvd with a strong show of support of Life! Our Culture of Life Director for the 2014-2015 Fraternal Year is Michael Ferrin. Our Family Committee focuses on activities geared to the family. One of our Family activities include our annual Family Picnic which provides a great opportunity for our Brother Knights, our wives, and our children to visit, play, and have fun together. We had about 65 people at our picnic this past August. We have had a family dinner out at Mayflower. This is another great opportunity for our families to come together in fellowship. Operation LAMB (Least Among My Brethren). Our Operation LAMB (Least Among My Brethren) Committee focuses on our fundraising efforts to support the LAMB Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. Our Community Committee focuses on helping our community here in Winston-Salem and the surrounding area. We have an adopted highway we maintain off on North Point Blvd. At least four times a year we clean it up after meeting for some fellowship and breakfast traditionally at the McDonalds. Our Community Committee helps with the Special Olympics and also the Challenger Baseball Program in Clemmons. If you have questions or would like to help out with this committee! Our Youth Committee focuses on the children of our community. We have an annual Coats-for-Kids coat drive to collect coats for children who have none. We hold a Soccer Challenge inviting boys and girls aged 9 to 14 to participate in a game involving kicking a ball into a soccer goal that is divided up into different scoring areas. We host a Free Throw Challenge every year as well. We sponsor an Essay Contest and a Poster Contest through St Leo the Great Catholic School every year. St Leo's Catholic Church.
