水越峠から金剛山へダイヤモンドトレールで歩みを進めて約20分で越口と言う場所に到着しますが、この場所が金剛山を水源とし、河内 大阪 側へ流れていた水を大和 奈良 側に流路を変え、さらには現在の金剛山山頂の所属が奈良県になった功労者である、上田角之進についての記述がありました。 国立歴史民俗博物館研究報告第141集の581-590の、関沢まゆみ著 死者の火 儀礼伝承の潜伏と顕在と という記事があり、その中の 2 郷墓と五輪 に、近代以降になって造立された五輪塔の例として上田角之進伝説の記事を見つけましたので紹介します。 吐田郷ではこの水越川の開拓者として上田角之進 元和三 一六一七 年三月一八日没 という伝説上の人物の名が伝えられている。 上田角之進は大和側の水不足を解消するために、もともと河内側に流れていた金剛山の水を大和側へ流れるように上流でおおがかりな開削工事を行なった人物であり、元禄一四 一七 一 年の河内側との水論における大和側の勝因は水越川の水がその工事によって事実上、大和へと流れ落ちていた事実が検使奉行に認定されたからであった。 平成29年 30年 金剛山へ年越し登山 後編.
