T's World

Friday I trekked with a friend down to the old location of Bock's Berry Farm. I picked nine pounds of tasty blueberries. My friend remarked that it might be a good idea for them to weigh the customers before and after they leave and collect for the other pound or two of berries that may have found their way into the belly instead of the bucket. I'm gonna try to get back down there this week. The freezer isn't quite full enough. ;p. Links to this post. I'm back, at least temporarily. I keeping forgetting ...

T's World: I'm back, at least temporarily.

http://www.kooglerpierce.blogspot.com/2009/06/im-back-at-least-temporarily.html

I'm back, at least temporarily. Howdy folks. I know it's been awhile. More than two months I think! My odd jobs business has picked up significantly and keeping me very busy, which is great, but it leaves little time for this. I have been toying with the idea of deleting this blog, but I think at least as a reference for myself for all the cooking we've done it's worth keeping. Anyways, that's all for now. I hope all my faithful readers are doing well. Grill pizza is da bomb. Yep, DA BOMB!

Homemade Yogurt and Croutons. Last week I made some Homemade Yogurt. Using a simple and easy recipe. Unfortunately for me, it turned out pretty runny, and although it was tasty, I would rather have a thicker consistency. I've played around a bit after a little research and have come up with a slightly different recipe that turns out quite a bit thicker than the last. In addition, a friend of mine posed the question to me, "Why do you boil the milk? About 5 Tbsp dry milk. 1/3 cup plain yogurt. Is affected...

Bakehouse" Bread with Romertopf Clay Bakers. Yesterday I was working helping a woman clean and organize her kitchen. We ended up getting rid of a lot of items - some to consign, some that just got thrown away, and some that were to get stored in the garage. A couple items she offered to give to me - one of them a Romertopf. And I thought I was anal about saving instructions and warranty information! She recommended the chicken recipe that was on the instructions, but the recipe for bread caught my eye.

I'm back after my hiatus.  All three of my ladies have had their babies and all are doing well! A couple weeks ago I joined forced with Ryan from the Dewey St. Workshop. For a basement demolition project.  I have done a significant amount of yard work and other smaller fix-it jobs for the owner of the home, so I knew this would be an interesting matter.  She has been working on a complete remodel (inside and out! Stairwell after panelling removed. Ryan taking out parts of the bookshelf area. This is the ...

Recipes for Living: July 2008

http://jenn-recipesforliving.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Thursday, July 17, 2008. If anyone goes to the farmer's markets in Alton, Jerseyville, or Brighton, you have probably seen the Krueger's Orchard tent. Currently they are selling the most delectable pie cherries I have ever seen (yes, so this is the first year I have seen a fresh pie cherry, so what? Anyway, if you decide to take on the effort and bake your own fresh cherry pie, here is what to do! Adapted from Chez Panisse Fruit, by Alice Waters. 3 After 10 m...

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Sunday, October 12, 2008. Ratatouille in the Crock Pot. So many eggplant and zucchini! I have never had ratatouille before, and it was a deliciously pleasant surprise. Gluten and meat free, would be excellent served with pasta, as a pizza topping or in a lasagna. Not to mention how easy it is - just slice and dice and layer in the crock pot, leave it for the day and then eat! Recipe from Recipe Zaar. 2 large onions, cut in half and sliced. 1 t dried oregano.

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Monday, November 24, 2008. This is a recipe I have been making for years, and is perfect for the after-Thanksgiving use of leftover turkey. The vegetable choices in this pie are limitless, and of course you could change the recipe to beef by using beef bouillon in place of chicken. To be honest I would like to get away from using the manufactured bouillon in this recipe, so I should probably work on a way to remove it. Deep Dish Chicken Pot Pie. 2 Add milk al...

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Thursday, August 28, 2008. This recipe came from a co-worker, and is one of those fudge-able recipes where you can adjust the quantities to your liking. 3 medium tomatoes, diced. 2 jalepenos, seeds removed and finely chopped. 1 bunch cilantro, roughly chopped. 1/4 C diced onion or scallions. 1/2 cup water (optional). Add all ingredients except salt to the food processor, pulse until blended. Remove to a bowl and mix in salt to your taste. 1 In a medium bowl, ...

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Saturday, January 31, 2009. And don't even get me started on Bisquick. Adapted from Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. 1 C Whole wheat pastry flour. Bob's Red Mill, Hodgson Mill, and King Arthur brands are ones I have seen). 1 Tbsp cane sugar or honey. 2 tsp baking powder ( aluminum free. Is good, or you can make your own. 2 Tbsp oil (melted butter or olive oil works well). Before I continue with the recipe, a note about whole wheat flour. BTW, I *love* blueb...

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Tuesday, September 9, 2008. As I was looking for an easy chicken soup recipe to use some more of my garden veggies, I came across this one, and I could not resist! It was EXCELLENT. For a vegetarian version use vegetable broth rather than chicken broth, and add a can of rinsed pinto beans or chickpeas for some more protein. You could also add a cup of rice to this soup if you wish. Adapted from Recipe #4574 on Recipe Zaar. 1 medium onion, chopped. I really li...

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Monday, December 8, 2008. Christmas is just around the corner. Now that Christmas is nearly here, maybe you are looking for gift ideas for family or friends. With the economy the way it is, many people are cutting back their usual spending, and/or buying gifts that are practical rather than impractical. I mean, just how many cocoa mug gift sets and bottles of perfumey soap does one person need? Although for the record I cannot get enough of this soap. That I ...

And for the lucky few who signed up early enough, we have been LOVING the spring greens early share that farmer Kris grows for us! But at the end of last week, my husband brought home five pounds of asparagus from work! FIVE POUNDS. What did he pay for this bounty? So, what do I do with five pounds of this deliciously tasty special spring veggie? I made soup of course! 4 Remove asparagus from water (DO NOT DISCARD TH...

A blog to share great recipes for local food. Sunday, June 29, 2008. Roasted Beets and beet greens. Don't forget to check the binders on the recipe table in the barn for recipes you can take home with you! Christina has them organized under tabs for the main vegetable in the recipe. She also has cookbooks on the table there that you can browse through to get recipe ideas (please do not remove these cookbooks from the barn). Recipe found by Bob on internet :). 1 Preheat your oven to 400F. 4 Eat your beet!
