This project was focused on the mediation environmental and social forces at the site. Parametric components that were developed to mediate these two forces were then tiled onto the surface of the structure. The mitigation of sunlight and heat for varying programmatic requirements informed the opening and closing of sun diffusers while the social forces of locals and tourists sharing a site informed the opening and closing of apertures.

This is the centerfold that we made for the French magazine ‘Stiletto’ while I worked at SOFTlab. The theme for this issue was Utpoias and we were given 6 shoes to showcase. In light of the theme, the shoes are treated as architectural oases in the urban environment. I worked on modeling reproductions of the shoes in Maya.

http://jasonmcgee.me/portfolio/meditation-boat
This is a small freelance project from 2005. Ann Hamilton, an artist based in Columbus, was building a “meditation boat” in Laos. Using Ann’s drawings of the boat, I produced these renderings to help communicate her design intent to the craftsmen in Laos that would be building the project.
