Saturday, July 31, 2010. Some Little AGS Tricks. In the couple of years I've been fiddling with AGS scripting, I've picked up a couple of tricks that I've learned from others and from fiddling, and also shared with a few others. There's nothing mindblowing in here, but perhaps some of them can be useful to those of you interested in using AGS. If you have a special talking loop, simply use character.LockViewFrame() to lock it to that when you want them to talk in that direction, and place it after th...

304: The Number of the Ben: June 2011
http://ben304.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 25, 2011. When I started making City, I wanted to do things differently. I had made a whole bunch of games where the control method was "Left click uses/talks/walks, right click looks" - a comfortable, effective control scheme that is very common for modern adventure games. However, I thought I should try to experiment. I had made a couple of short experimental games without inventory or right clicking for their puzzles (Heed and! And so, I went back and put in the right mouse button as th...

Sunday, May 27, 2012. Usually I like to save my blog for longer, more essay type posts, which means I have nowhere to put little snippets of the game design process. However, I thought I'd like to do this, and so I started a little journal over here. You can see me painting this background in stages, as well as animations and all sorts of other behind the scenes stuff over there, which I guess some of you may be interested in. Links to this post. 304: The Number of the Ben: PISS Developer Diary: Setting the Scene
http://ben304.blogspot.com/2012/05/piss-developer-diary-setting-scene.html
Friday, May 11, 2012. PISS Developer Diary: Setting the Scene. For PISS, I really want to create an interesting, exotic world. I want it to be familiar and yet also quite alien - you should be able to recognize a building as a building and a tree as a tree, but it shouldn't look exactly like the buildings or trees that we see every day. It's something I've really pushed - putting interesting things in each scene. I want you to look. May 11, 2012 at 6:51 AM. Could you do it? May 11, 2012 at 4:29 PM. Your ...

304: The Number of the Ben: March 2011
http://ben304.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 11, 2011. Sometimes I get an idea and instead of just writing it down or sketching it out, I build a prototype to see how it'd all work - sometimes you don't know how well something will work until you actually feel it for yourself in game. Recently, I built this prototype of a "rooms within a room" idea that has been kicking around my head for a while. I've been wanting to do something like this since I made! Links to this post. The Dead Pixel Post: Tested to perfection: Egress

Tested to perfection: Egress. If you're after something thoughtful to play this evening and you've about an hour to kill then you won't go far wrong with this short and perfectly free space adventure from Krams Design. Can be a little slow moving at times, but the Space Odyssey. It also looks and sounds great. A superbly subtle music score compliments the bleak hand-drawn art style and both lend a real sense of mystery and intrigue to the proceedings. Posted by Rowan Davies. 23 November 2011 at 23:06.
