Monday, January 31, 2011. Now, tell me your secrets. Many CreComms will remember the first-semester journalism class in which we watched a clip of Peter Mansbridge interviewing Diana Krall. We all took notes on what we thought were the strengths of the interview. Many of us noted Mansbridge's softball questions and his smooth transition between topics. Steve assured the class that we would get there and that good interviews come with time and experience. Jian Ghomeshi is a pro. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Jlog: July 2010

Saturday, July 17, 2010. My blood is boiling. If there’s one news story that really gets people's blood boiling, it’s a story that involves animal cruelty. Just read some of the comments on the. E regarding the dog hoarding situation in Gull Lake. 44 dogs were seized from a three-bedroom bungalow where they were kept in an extremely unsanitary conditions. 8230;is watching an animal drown supposed to be entertaining? I don’t buy it. To CBC's story (fast forward to the 3:00 mark). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Monday, November 22, 2010. As both a journalist and a cookie enthusiast. I'm looking at this video from two very different perspectives. Monday, November 15, 2010. Can female reporters grow old on TV? O’Reilly, former host of the BBC’s. BBC for age and sex discrimination after being fired from the show. Is alleging is true, it's just another reason I'm. Skeptical of TV journalism and how your success can depend on your looks. Sunday, November 7, 2010. 15 The Reporters Notebook. 8217;t part of the journal...

Jlog: The Military and the Media.
http://talkingpoint-rrc.blogspot.com/2011/02/military-and-media.html
Sunday, February 27, 2011. The Military and the Media. When the temperatures dropped below -40 at the Forward Operating Base (basically a makeshift camp with dozens of tents and a ton of snowmobiles), soldiers were quite willing to step inside my heated tent and chat with me. Had some mixed reactions while travelling with the troops. Most have been willing to talk to me but many have their reservations about the media. 8221; I replied. 8220;Yeah. I F* *. Babysat them the entire time," he said. Had to ear...

Jlog: Earl Cook Update
http://talkingpoint-rrc.blogspot.com/2011/02/earl-cook-update.html
Monday, February 7, 2011. A few posts down you'll see a post called Earl Cook's Story. Melyssa and I created a five-minute profile on Earl, who is an amazingly determined young man fighting cancer. Anyways, it's only been about a month since we handed in the story but so much has happened with the story since we posted it online. Yes, he called me Jennifer, but, really, Darren Dreger can call me whatever he wants considering the video went from 100 to nearly 800 views. March 9, 2011 at 2:04 PM. And so yo...

http://talkingpoint-rrc.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 16, 2010. Hey, remember when we learnt stuff in school last year? When my friend Steph. Told me she danced in a flash mob at the Rogers Cup this past weekend I replied "That's guerrilla marketing! Anyways, this blog isn't about what I've learnt in school, it's about how much I love the flash mob. There's something about the spontaneity, the smiles, the music and the dance all working together. Is in this flash mob too. I guess you could say she's sort of a veteran flash mobber.

http://talkingpoint-rrc.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 10, 2012. It's been a lengthy hiatus, but the blog is back! This post is actually related to my last blog entry, which was published more than a year ago. With it being Remembrance Day I wanted to share a story I wrote on my final days of the exersice. I think it's a story that'll stick with me for a long time and really exemplifies why I wanted to become a journalist. Warrant Officer Brady MacDonald. Parallel, honouring the soldier who was killed worlds away. For ten days the desolate...

Jlog: September 2010
http://talkingpoint-rrc.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 26, 2010. I hate relying on other people to get something finished. Unfortunately, this is a huge part of journalism. You’re constantly relying on people to “get back to you with an answer.”. I had a tough time getting a hold of someone this week for an interview, and I know some of my classmates had the same problem. I eventually contacted the person after numerous phone calls, two voicemail messages, one email and a visit to their workplace. 8217;t want to talk to you. Last week I hea...
