Kindling: Prompts
http://www.christikrug.net/p/writing-prompts.html
Serving Writers and Creators. Where do good ideas go when they can't be found? When you seem to be out of ideas, you actually are not. You've simply left the "idea frame of mind.". When you go to sleep at night, your mind will start spinning dream after dream, image after image. A multitude of ideas are still there, inside you. Your challenge is to find that creative mindset where ideas show up consciously. And some visual prompts, too:. Image credit: stockfreeimages.com. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Kindling: An Acorn, A Beginning
http://www.christikrug.net/2015/01/an-acorn-beginning.html
Serving Writers and Creators. An Acorn, A Beginning. Writing exercise: start with an object from nature - a leaf, nut, burl, clump of moss. Take a long, close look. Now "wildwrite" for ten minutes without stopping. This emerged from my "wildwrite" on an acorn. Here is a cap and a chin and almost a face. The chin has age spots. But the cap is youthful, a beanie. And the face is eager and blank like an Amish doll, sacred and hopeful. I am so like this acorn wobbling on the table. An acorn on the walk.

Serving Writers and Creators. The Confused Little Voice of Should. Oh the agony of Should. Tells you where to go . . . and you follow, believing this to be the right path, but then a new Should. Comes along, even while the old Should. And you wonder about this, because the other Should. Kindling: Being Authentic: A Story from Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike

Serving Writers and Creators. Being Authentic: A Story from Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. S, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Is threaded with themes, from Chekhov's plays to global warming, from jealousy to the true meaning of success. The characters are wonderful, my favorites including the fortune-telling housekeeper (Olivia Negron), and the girl next door (Eden Malyn). This, for me, is key. Are you truly engaging in life if you are simply acting a role? The phone rings the next day. So...

Kindling: Found Poems: Listening to Others

Serving Writers and Creators. Found Poems: Listening to Others. Became cozy and weak. Wind oh, I thought. Of the vivid red. A few years before my mother died of Parkinson's, she worked with an art therapist. Holly facilitated Mother's artwork and took notes of the things she said. I went through a folder this morning, thinking I would toss them, but I couldn't. Instead I found a poem. It needed only my arrangement, and the brushing away of a few extra words. Kindling: The Roar of Storytelling: The Lion at Portland Center Stage

Serving Writers and Creators. The Roar of Storytelling: The Lion at Portland Center Stage. Human beings have been gathering together to share stories as long as we've been on the planet," says Chris Coleman, Artistic Director for Portland Center Stage. These gatherings, these stories- they are coming to mean everything to me and the work that I do. There is no straighter route to the heart than through telling a story, especially a story in song. There are signs, however, that something is not right.
