Kristin Collier's Musings: Another* Modest Proposal
http://kristincollier.blogspot.com/2012/04/another-modest-proposal.html
A stab at partnership with earth, light, and love. Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Yesterday, while doing our weekly trash pick up at the estuary behind the Winn-Dixie, it occurred to me once more what a national treasure our children are. Watching my nine and eleven-year-old sons snake their slender bodies through the mangroves to reach for empty beer and vodka bottles, I marveled at their tenacious dexterity and the value of its good use in this application. Children are small. Their bodies are built for...

Kristin Collier's Musings: A Tale From San Francisco

A stab at partnership with earth, light, and love. Wednesday, March 14, 2012. A Tale From San Francisco. The boys and I decided to take the city bus to the Exploratorium. We boarded the transit four blocks from my sisters home in the Dogpatch and slowly rolled across the city. I considered my options. Would I ask her to turn it down? I imagined that the request would not be warmly received. I expected that I would likely be seen as another white person demanding that my needs be considered first. I felt ...

Kristin Collier's Musings: Crafting Play
http://kristincollier.blogspot.com/2013/04/crafting-play.html
A stab at partnership with earth, light, and love. Sunday, April 21, 2013. I set down my groceries when I got home and called the boys into the livingroom. "Is there anything you want to tell me about how you spent your time while I was gone today? I asked. "Take a few minutes to think about that before you answer.". We played Minecraft for awhile," said Trin quietly. "But how did you know? I am your Mother. I said solemnly. I am allowed to enjoy one aspect of this conversation, right? Yeah And it's fun&...

Sunday, September 12, 2010. The New Normal: Back to Work, Back to School. Blogging Baby Malcolm and Salome: June 2010
http://baby-malcolm.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 18, 2010. I have told everyone to stop asking for status updates every fifteen minutes, and am really beginning to see that this child must be a girl because it behaves much more like me than its brother. Geoffrey was a month early. Malcolm was a week early. I was a month late (after three attempted inductions of pitocin, and the birth resulted in several longlasting complications). Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Rite of Passage: He is a Big Boy Now. So Malcolm came back home for a couple of hour...

Wednesday, July 21, 2010. The Illusion of the Fourth Trimester. Everywhere I go lately people say "What a tiny little baby! Is this your first outing? I am very grateful for the meals and playdates that our community has provided. I just wish it didn't feel like it was ending quite yet. On the other hand maybe if I look like I have been home resting while I have been trying to run around and care for the two kids, myself, the cat and the three chickens then maybe I am keeping it all together. We also kno...

Blogging Baby Malcolm and Salome: October 2009
http://baby-malcolm.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 22, 2009. This Little Light of Mine. Labels: This Little Light of Mine. We just put Malcolm to bed. There was nothing that out of the ordinary until we got to the end. He said, " I want to sleep in my bed." I said, "Ok" and prepared to crawl in his toddler bed with him to give him Mama's Milk. He said, "No, no mama's milk. I will see you in the morning mom." What happened? That was our last sacred time for mama's milk, and no cuddles? Just some stories, blankets, and a kiss goodnight?
Stonework: April 2010

Tuesday, April 13, 2010. On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins. Science, computers and AI, and might have trashed Hawkins just because he trashes almost everyone in those fields. I am NOT well versed in computer science, electronics, AI and brain science, although I know more than many because I've lived with engineers and worked for brain scientists. But Hawkins's book was obviously a pop read, not a serious study. I also liked his lecture and was excited by his claim that the neo. Science about the cortex an...

Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Creating Worlds - Tales of Anieth. What I do is create worlds. I wanted to do this ever since I read The Lord of Rings. When I was nine. I decided at the ripe ol' age of twelve, that my greatest fear in writing was that some artist would get to interpret the characters and the world visually. Since I wanted to create a WORLD and not a novel, I decided that I had to draw my own pictures. This meant drawing people. Because the story works. Usually my stories were good, cer...
