Rufous-Sided Towhees are everywhere here too, scuffling with their feet in the fallen leaves and other detritus that litters this property, looking for bugs and other tidbits. They call their unlovely little cry to each other, hopping around and occasionally leaving beautiful black and white feathers on the grass for me to find. The Blackheaded Grosbeak and the Varied Thrush, who is a robin's cousin with Egyptian eye paint, share the same color scheme.

Originally, I drew Camano Pentagram in colored pencil shortly after I moved north from Seattle, but eventually I painted it. Each of the animals, locations, even the plants have significance in my transistion into the rural experience. Click on different animals to learn more about what I have experienced living on Camano.

Our Douglas Fir Squirrel lives in the woods off our back deck. He's a frequent visitor, searching for broadleaf maple seeds. His yellow waistcoat with a dark side stripe makes him difficult to see among the fallen leaves. I quit feeding animals because it attracted invading gray squirrels, who will drive our native species to extinction unless we are vigilant. We also have a delightful giant salamander who wanders in the road on rainy summer nights. Which proves they can see.
Kristin's Camano Special Story
http://www.kristinscamano.com/special_story.html
The Saga of the White Rabbit. My nephew came to me, begging for a white rabbit, complete with cage, that some people were giving away. I said yes, and soon he was back with the bunny, which I took downstairs to let the rabbit out so I could clean his cage. I left him alone for a few minutes while I spruced up his environment. I looked back at the bunny, then at the garden. I opened the cage. I let him out. O joy! I always wondered if he screamed.

The Life and Times of Kristin
Saturday, June 6, 2009. I got pulled over for the first time by the police. I was in Whittier going to see a concert and made a right on a red. Apparently you cannot do that.I got a ticket. :(. I was so nervous that my hands were shaking and he had to show me what the registration looked like.I had no idea. Luckily, my friend Stacey was with me in the car and at the concert I ran into my cop friend Jared who explained what I have to do. I don't like getting pulled over by the police. Photographic tales of places and people serendipity, magical realism and the absurd. San Miguel de Allende and the Art of Letting One Thing Lead to Another. The scenery whizzed past me as I watched from the backseat of a taxi that seemed to be flying across Mexico’s northern highlands. . Small trees stubbornly clung to the hills of an otherwise rather barren and tan undulating landscape, unexpectedly reminding me of scenery from both Italy and Ethiopia. . Casa Alegria, .
