Be Great and Get Better! : What are you doing this summer?
http://mrdegner.blogspot.com/2013/07/what-are-you-doing-this-summer.html
Be Great and Get Better! Monday, July 1, 2013. What are you doing this summer? What are you doing this summer? So what are educators doing during the summer? I was one of the lucky few to spend some of my summers on the diamond. We have great opportunities to learn from each other. Even though I was sad this past week to be a #NotatISTE instead of a #ISTE13 Tweeter I still had a great time following the events and learning along with everyone. Hope you enjoyed the read. Comment if you so desire! 160; At s.

Be Great and Get Better! : March 2014
http://mrdegner.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Be Great and Get Better! Sunday, March 23, 2014. Grade students and gave them an example of somebody that is doing it and living it. I was so impressed by the passion and resolve she showed these students and the time she spent talking to them after the meeting. One of the long term goals is to hook the junior high students in with a high school mentor that continues the message Soumba started. Never forget the impact these conversations can have. http://mrdegner.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Be Great and Get Better! Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Pockejtke – We need to find our sweet spot! Then I usually was allowed to watch some cartoons and the old school Adam West, Batman. Which is Czech for, wait/hold on) when we would ask him for help or assistance in putting a new toy together. After we patiently or impatiently did so he would call us over and slip $5 in our pocket and tell us not to tell our mom and spend whatever amount of time we needed with him. What is holding you back? I am not sure th...

The Dean's Corner: The Struggling Learner
http://colinwikan.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-struggling-learner.html
If what you did yesterday seems big, you haven't done anything today. Lou Holtz. Sunday, March 2, 2014. It is that time of year! After reading Ben Gilpin’s (@benjamingilpin) blog post titled, “Monkeys can teach good kids,”. And Jimmy Casas’s (@casas jimmy) blog post titled, “Every Rose has Thorns…& Petals,”. Assure them they can. Don’t make it about punishment. Celebrate anything and everything. Don’t take it personal. I cannot say these strategies will change your world, but I can say they did assist me...

Be Great and Get Better! Wednesday, September 4, 2013. When was the last time you said, "I am sorry? From time to time I mess up; whether it is as a father, husband, brother, son or principal, etc. I make mistakes. You get it, right? Is it pride, fear of failure, appearing weak, anger? The reason can be different for different mistakes. Whatever the reason when we have made an error, we need to apologize and say I AM SORRY. September 9, 2013 at 6:18 PM. Those two little words can go a long way. I oft...

The Dean's Corner: November 2013
http://colinwikan.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
If what you did yesterday seems big, you haven't done anything today. Lou Holtz. Sunday, November 3, 2013. Make your Mess your Message. I would not say I was your perfect child growing up nor would I say I was your worst. Did I reach my full potential? Well, that is what I did as an eighth grader, took the road less traveled. To make a long story short, I spent almost one fourth of my year in ISS (In School Suspension). Why? Did my school not provide the services I needed to be successful? You see I didn...

The Dean's Corner: I Thought I knew, but I had no Idea
http://colinwikan.blogspot.com/2013/09/asi-wrap-up-fourth-week-of-my.html
If what you did yesterday seems big, you haven't done anything today. Lou Holtz. Saturday, September 7, 2013. I Thought I knew, but I had no Idea. As I wrap up the fourth week of my administrative career, I want to share my experiences up to this. Point These are the experiences of a new high school administrator in the state of Iowa. The best phrase I have found to sum up my experience is: “I thought I knew, but I had no Idea! Did my student teaching experience not reflect that of a true classroom?
