into the jungle

Thursday, May 20, 2010. The train that knew it could. I caught the local bus from Hampi to Hospet and the train from Hospet to Hubli then another train from Hubli to Jodphur, a total of forty three hours on the train. Her mother fed me constantly and despite my efforts to remain independent she absorbed me into the menagerie of children she cared for. In the cool of the evening we painted Mehendi on each other’s hands and they coloured my nails strawberry pink to match theirs. Sunday, May 16, 2010. There...

into the jungle: January 2010

http://www.kristyinthejungle.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 31, 2010. The Land of the Scooter. Bat caves and a clear creek with big brightly coloured rocks underneath the water. Huge weird bugs, scurrying spiders and once again, rumours of the Mouse Deer that I still have not laid eyes on. One day I will. Hilariously there was an information billboard about my friend the mouse deer, the information directly cited from Wikipedia. Heheh. Monday, January 25, 2010. I cooked my own meal in a Thai restaurant and even better – it tasted fabulous! We have...

into the jungle: Temples, boulders, falafel and a heat wave

http://www.kristyinthejungle.blogspot.com/2010/05/this-post-is-dedicated-to-diane-who.html

Sunday, May 16, 2010. Temples, boulders, falafel and a heat wave. This post is dedicated to Diane who virtually made me promise her that I would go to Hampi. I did. It was great. Thank you. The lotus temple - the most beautiful building I have ever seen,. Aside from Morris St. There was a beautiful breeze inside this watchtower. I sat up here for ages escaping the heat and enjoying the bizarre landscape. My friend Marco from Italia, motor bike companion extraordinaire! Location: Hampi, Karnataka, India.

into the jungle: February 2010

http://www.kristyinthejungle.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 7, 2010. One week in Bangkok. I quickly found the cutest room I have stayed in thus far, decorated in pink and purple with satin curtains. It was meant to be, fit for a princess, it was revoltingly feminine. The place is manned by two aging ga-toi (lady boys) with black roots and blonde extensions, they neither speak or write English so I had to check myself in and complete all their paperwork. Hilarious! And just around the corner from three vegetarian restaurants. Perfection. Our day o...

into the jungle: "You have now experienced an Andhra Pradesh Telugu Brahmin Wedding!"

http://www.kristyinthejungle.blogspot.com/2010/05/i-have-had-few-opportunities-over-last.html

Wednesday, May 12, 2010. You have now experienced an Andhra Pradesh Telugu Brahmin Wedding! This was my first real exposure to the daily lives of people who aren’t in the tourist trade, and the people were astoundingly, amazingly lovely, generous, bright and fun. Most excitingly Sampretti invited us to her home on the first night of the wedding to have henna designs painted on our hands and feet. I didn’t have the opportunity to take any exciting photos of the riots, maybe next time. Temples, boulders, f...
