fecundity | my sweet sojourn
https://sweetsojourn.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/fecundity
Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. Annie dillard blows my mind. Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Is one of my all time favorite books. I’m working on a paper about nature writing as a genre, specifically how writers respond to Darwin’s theories* (and the later outworking of those theories by Darwin’s contemporaries). I was just going to use a little bit of Dillard. but i’m having trouble not quoting the whole book! If you’ve never read her, try out this chapter:. Origin of the Species.

“the weird thanksgiving” | my sweet sojourn
https://sweetsojourn.wordpress.com/2011/07/02/the-weird-thanksgiving
Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. 8220;the weird thanksgiving”. I went to the santa fe farmer’s market this morning. it’s a lovely market. there was an abundant selection of local produce. it was high quality, organic or pesticide free and devotedly seasonal (read: nary a tomato, watermelon or avocado in sight… yet). Since i’m in a dorm and have a meal plan, i did not buy any beets or rhubarb or carrots, though they looked amazing. I can’t find an image of the favorite p...

the harrow and the harvest | my sweet sojourn
https://sweetsojourn.wordpress.com/2011/07/01/the-harrow-and-the-harvest
Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. The harrow and the harvest. Gillian welch FINALLY released a new album this week. I want to learn to play her stuff so very desperately, but without david rawlings on guitar it just won’t be the same. they are pie and icecream. wonderful on their own, but oh so much more complete together. auditions to be my personal david rawlings now being accepted. After four runs through, my favorite songs are (in no particular order):. Never been so mad.

Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. 8230;and nobody’s happy. Have you seen that bit of jim gaffigan on conan? He talks about the amazing advances in modern technology (such as flying in the air while talking on the phone) and how people can still find things to complain and moan about. i love it. Tonight after dinner, i settled into my hammock with a final draft of my paper. i read through it, marking it up a bit with my blue pen. When gently i realized. I am laying in my hammock.

Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. Customary 4th of july post to come later.). This was my dream last night:. I was at the my morning jacket/ neko case concert coming up at home in august and only about 25 people were there. i was so mad at the hometown crowd and their lack of enthusiasm for great music. in between sets, i walked down into the pit. Not to see the show…. But to do my laundry. 1) i’m excited about seeing mmj and neko case. 3) i need to do laundry today.

and He takes. | my sweet sojourn
https://sweetsojourn.wordpress.com/2011/06/29/and-he-takes
Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. I know two people who died from cancer in the past twelve hours. This is the second time i’ve been too far away from grieving friends. i wish i could be there. Certain songs come to mind whenever i feel loss or sadness. usually it’s a specific line that plays over and over in my head. At the hospital with aimee, it was the line “love is watching someone die” from the song. By death cab for cutie. Background: this was and is the. But that day, ...

Which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished. Waiting for enough rain, part 2. My previous post was an allusion to a letter written by Native American author Leslie Marmon Silko that touched me very deeply. we read it in the book. Which i commend to you. here is the letter:. We just walked back from class. there are clouds gathering in the north sky. they are dark gray and blue, almost the color of a deep bruise. the wind occasionally gusts. But no more came. Until then, we look to the sky.

Prague Crossroads: Lucy's Birthday
http://philnshanna.blogspot.com/2013/12/lucys-birthday.html
Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Our girl turned 11 and started the day off right with some waffles. Including a trip to Paris with Mommy in January! Her friends at school blessed her too with a fun celebration. We continue to be so blessed by Lucy. She displays great maturity for a young lady, and she has a great gift of making all kinds of people feel very welcomed and encouraged. Her laugh is still the most infectious of the family, and we admire her quiet wisdom and trust in God! We love you Lucy!
