News & Events. As many other Aboriginal tribal groups before the arrival of Europeans, Kungarakan culture was ancient and pure; un-weakened by invasion and dispossession. Joe McGinness in his book recalls his days as a young man gathering bush tucker at the tin mine homestead named the ‘Lucy Claim’ after his mother Alyandabu:. Senior Kungarakan Elder and keeper of the Kungarakan language was peacefully called home on Easter Sunday (20. April 2014). Wife of the Reverend Graham Bishop and mother to Kate, Tony, Barb, Helen, Andrew and Meg and Wetji to many will be sadly missed for her fine sense of humour and wise counsel.
