If you are looking for a more "academic" introduction, then my article in the International Journal of Architectural Research. Is still the most appropriate. Albany: The Pedestrian Perspective: Snow. Finally.
http://urbanalbany.blogspot.com/2012/03/snow-finally.html
Albany: The Pedestrian Perspective. Tuesday, March 6, 2012. On Leap Day, Albany received its first major snow fall of the year. On February 29th. This is not funny, Mother Nature. Anyway, it was a very pretty sight. It rained a bit the next day, and most of it is now gone. But our brief visit with winter was long overdue and sorely needed. Having four seasons in the Northeast is necessary for the soul. The storm also led to The Great Facebook Snow Pun Thread of 2012:. Scenes from The College of Saint Rose.

Albany: The Pedestrian Perspective: CDTA Route Changes Go Into Effect Today
http://urbanalbany.blogspot.com/2011/11/cdta-route-changes-go-into-effect-today.html
Albany: The Pedestrian Perspective. Sunday, November 13, 2011. CDTA Route Changes Go Into Effect Today. Today Albany's new routes begin, commencing the largest service change in CDTA history. I've written about that a few times on this blog, and I've been pretty optimistic overall about the changes. I think they'll improve the service we're getting. However, there are a couple of things that aren't going to work quite as well. On one of my last trips on the 4, earlier this week, a representative from CDT...

Remix IT to the Streets: December 2014
http://streetremix.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Remix IT to the Streets. Like it share it remix it. Saturday, December 20, 2014. Apply for the position as head of government. It's summer. It's vacation time. It is almost, but not quite, even warm outside. For those who at last can enjoy a break from their hard work, these are good times. After many moons of sweat and toil, there's finally a slim chance for something as mythological as a sleep-in. A slow afternoon. An evening not haunted by the fast approaching workmorning after. Thus, if you are not e...

The complex grid | Emergent Urbanism

This works until the street network becomes large enough to become a functional problem. Because it is random, the medieval street network becomes complicated to move around in once the structure exceeds a certain scale. Some people see this as an obstacle to commerce and project to restructure the emergent medieval grid into something more rational. If it is to be complicated to get inside...

Albany: The Pedestrian Perspective: CDTA Route Restructuring - The Suburban Edition
http://urbanalbany.blogspot.com/2012/08/cdta-route-restructuring-suburban.html
Albany: The Pedestrian Perspective. Friday, August 17, 2012. CDTA Route Restructuring - The Suburban Edition. Phase 1 of CDTA's Albany County Route Restructuring. Project was rolled out last year. In the City of Albany. Phase 2 is on the agenda now, with the focus on Albany County, the area surrounding the city. Unlike last year's restructuring. I did not attend any meetings. Nor did I follow the process too closely. This is one of the first times I've even mentioned it. Maybe some crappy changes, too...

Jollyreaper's Idea Pit: May 2012
http://jollyreaper-ideapit.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
A refuse dump of the weird things that fall out of my head. Friday, May 18, 2012. This is a short story I wrote a while back. I'm not very happy with most of the urban fantasy coming out these days. I think the writers have some talent but the demand by publishers to stretch everything out into a continuing series means that the storylines get stretched thin. I wanted to write something short and sweet. I'm going to be making my Run the next full moon," I told Sam Cuddy, my best friend. Yeah, Jess," Sam ...
