The large variety of trees supports a resident population of endemic Musky Rat-kangaroos, Striped Possums, Giant White-tailed Rats, Tree Mice and other marsupials and mammals. Just to the north of our property are Kuranda National Park and and the Wet Tropics World Heritage rainforest. Woompoo and Superb Fruit Doves feed in surrounding trees, Brush-turkeys and Orange-footed Scrubfowls have breeding mounds just meters from the cabin. A number of honeyeaters is always present. Butterflies and other insects. We have a permanent creek and a small pond within meters of the cabin, which support an abundance of frogs throughout the year. Australian Wood Frogs and Northern Barred Frogs are calling from the creek most of the time. There usually are several Stony-creek Frogs sitting on the rocks fringing the pond and the bigger tree frogs (Common Green and White-lipped) often visit our verandahs.
