I needed to get to dinner in Manhattan last night and would never give if I should cycle a second thought. I knew the lights were still out in lower Manhattan but I had not appreciated just how dark and eerie it would be. It was near impossible to see pedestrians and other cyclists (New Yorkers take a minimalist approach to lighting) on the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Headwind, Headwind, Headwind. 20km from Dingle we climbed up onto a ridge and could see the water and rolling green hills of the Dingle Peninsular – finally the poor conditions seemed worth the effort. The rain was sitting us sideways by this point and we had to pedal hard to get down the hill into Dingle but this cute little seaside bohemian town was worth every pedal stroke.

Today’s route took us through the middle of the peninsular so we did not have to deal with any traffic traveling around the Ring of Kerry. The road followed the valley and just outside of Waterville the road became a single track that weaved through the forest. We did not see a car for about 20km which was divine.
