The Outhouse
Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My work is influenced by exploring new environments, culture and identity. This project allows for a dialog between the viewer and the work: it is only with the direct connection of the viewer with the outhouse that the actual work is created. Each gesture performed by the viewer creates an expectation or illusion as to what is being created. The porcelain slip will create a constantly changing environment, one that dries and cracks, only to be covered over again and again.

Red-Light Culture, 1981. Friday, January 31, 2014. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). In 1981, Liberty Avenue was a different place of culture, it served as Pittsburgh’s red-light district. The buildings we see today, housing art galleries, theaters, restaurants, shops, etc, were home to adult novelty stores, strip clubs, xxx theaters, gay bars and burlesque houses. Fifty years before that, the red-light district was the original culture center of Pittsburgh, home to retail stores, art cinemas and shops.
