Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Beer with a Painter: Matt Phillips. I met Matt Phillips. In March, when he was part of our gallery's project at the Scope Art Fair. Not only am I crazy about his paintings, but he is also an incredibly fun and enthusiastic person to talk to, about everything from eccentric baby-calming techniques. To seltzer water, to Ani DiFranco. He and Andrea Bergart. This past Spring. He was also part of a group exhibition in Tel Aviv. A while ago, my friend Ryan Cobourn. MP: So I’m si...

This is a list of painters I would like to meet/steal powers from, starting with Lois Dodd:. Alex Katz (the landscapes, not the portraits). Mostly a photographer, but still on this list). Alexi Belsey Worth is a good painter and writer. Here's an excellent piece he wrote for Cabinet Magazine. Wayne Thiebaud, Edward Hopper, Alice Neel, and Gerhard Richter. More favorites: this Anders Zorn self portrait (1915). Best oil paint maker I've ever found). Consistently positive for years). The Gift by Lewis Hyde.
