Monday, May 15, 2006. 昭 和20年 1945 8月15日、日本が敗れ、土浦航空隊の予科練生だった 私はその10日後に帰郷しました。 テキストの表題が BUSHIDO だったので すわ軍国 主義の復活 と色めいたというわけです。 私たち悪ガキは、これで勉強が減ったと大喜び、テキス トは廃棄、それと共に私は 武士道 精神を過去に葬り去ってしまったのです。 あ れから60年経ち今回の執筆に当たり、すっかり縁が切れたと思っていた 武 士道 を改めて考え直す必要に迫られました。 私の60ならぬ 70代の手習い は、新渡戸稲造の BUSHIDO と、 葉隠れ から大いに学ぶ所がありました。 武士道 を体系的にまとめた鍋島藩の山本常朝 つねとも は、文才があったにも拘らず、彼の信条を後世に書き遺すこと を好みませんでした。 常朝は、元禄13年 1700 主君光成が亡くなると 二君に仕えず と殉死するつもりだったのですが、当時それは法で禁じられてい たのでその代わりに人里離れた林の中へ隠遁しました。 かくして新渡戸稲造、快 心の名著 BUSHIDO が欧米人にも判るように書き上げられたのです。
