This slideshow requires JavaScript. I had a contact in-country through a family friend, to whom I am forever grateful. A couch to sleep on and an English speaking companion in a very foreign land. Unfortunately, having learned little to zero Turkish (Türkçe) upon my arrival, even finding my contact’s apartment during a cab ride into the city was quite the adventure. Balık ekmek, a fish sandwich with onions, light lettuce, mayo, and more lemon juice than once thought imaginable. Turkish salsa, really simp...

Uni-Erlangen | Letters from Erlangen
https://kzoo.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/uni-erlangen
While in Germany I’ll be studying at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, or, for people who aren’t huge fans of umlauts, Uni-Erlangen. Http:/ www.uni-erlangen.de/. I’ll be studying Germanistik (German studies, akin to taking an English class), Foto Gesichte (History of Photography), Semantics, Pragmatics, Phonology, and maybe (if I’m lucky) Lebensmittelchemie (food chemistry). But you do get to see a bit of what my school looks like. It was filed under Uncategorized.

We made it! | Letters from Erlangen
https://kzoo.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/we-made-it
After a harrowing full 48 hours of travel and not sleeping for a good two nights straight, I, along with the rest of the Kalamazoo contingent, have arrived successfully in Erlangen. At first I want to just toss up some photos of the last few days with a more detailed description of the past (almost) week to follow. This slideshow requires JavaScript. Saskia in Kenya: A K Abroad Blog. A Kalamazoo College student's experiences studying at the University of Nairobi. Newer posts →. 30 November, 2010. Our mid-October expedition was to Kisumu. The third-largest city in Kenya, on the banks of Lake Victoria. As with the trip to Naivasha, our first stop on the way (apart from a quick break at a gas station for travel snacks) was at an overlook of the Great Rift Valley. Also as with the Naivasha trip, the sight completely took my breath away. Again. Two very t...
