It's happy screaming. Annual Spring Birthdays Weekend. Last weekend was our annual “all of the Zoellner family birthdays from January to April ” party. The actual party was at my brother Mark’s in the twin cities on Sunday, but my parents and brother Jon came up to our house on Friday. Since those of us with more refined palates (like Grandma and Grandpa and myself) were not as partial to hot dog soup as the kids were, I also made a pot of chicken chowder, so all were satisfied. And ladybug slippers (whi...

Summer Recap – July | The Westendorf 7
https://westendorf7.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/summer-recap-july
It's happy screaming. Summer Recap – July. July started busily, with my Cheddar Cheese Making class. On the 1st. Then on the third we went to Shell Lake for the fireworks. Esther even did Naomi’s hair for the occasion:. Monday was a sweet day – I harvested my first honey for the year! I got around a gallon from the two hives, with more to come later in the summer. Also on Monday, (since we didn’t have. Meet Hazel (the dark one on the left) and Chestnut (affectionately nicknamed “Nutsy”)🙂. They left on t...

It's happy screaming. New Orleans, Part 1. I was, frankly, a bit of a basket case. I figured I’d sleep on the drive and flight. Which of course never works well, but I did get a few catnaps throughout the day, and was able to speak coherently (I hope) for the reception Sunday night. I did, however, crash pretty hard immediately afterward, sleeping blissfully uninterrupted until morning. Highly recommended by this group! But I am determined to enjoy myself on this trip, and Monday fit the bill nicely.

Somali Culture Day | The Westendorf 7
https://westendorf7.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/somali-culture-day
It's happy screaming. Today we had another “out of the house” homeschooling day – this time we stayed local, learning about a ministry nearby serving Somali refugees. I’ve been impressed lately with the idea that we don’t have to “go” anywhere – there are plenty of unbelievers dying without hearing the Good News right here in rural Wisconsin. After today, I am even more convinced of this. The food was excellent (my first time eating goat – it was tender and delicious! The atmosphere was definitely someth...

It's happy screaming. Snowy Day Dress Up Fun. Here’s the view of our back porch, after another dusting of snow last night:. It looks like we won’t be having any picnics on the deck any time soon! Stuck inside, the girls decided to play dress-up. Here’s Naomi, apparently as Snow White:. And Elaina was the wicked witch:. Hannah had already changed out of her outfit by the time I got the camera out). Josiah got into the spirit later that afternoon, when he found his Darth Vader costume). We’d been pla...

It's happy screaming. Dancing Our Way Through Another Busy Week. Sunday was “Rally Sunday” at church, with an outdoor service and lunch in the fellowship hall. The weather was beautiful – I was even a little too warm sitting in the sun! In the afternoon, Sam and I drove the remaining broilers to the butcher’s, and in the evening, inspired by the fall colors, I talked Peter into taking me on a ride on the motorcycle just before bedtime. A square dance, of course! Peter’s sister Marta’s church ...After chu...

Pumpkin Patch 2014, and A Little Help for Our Friend | The Westendorf 7

It's happy screaming. Pumpkin Patch 2014, and A Little Help for Our Friend. The weekend after we returned from New Orleans a friend of mine was hosting a benefit for our mutual friend, Jocelyn, an adorable golden-curled five year old girl who was about to undergo open heart surgery. Hannah in particular was friends with Jocelyn, whom we’d met through the homeschool choir. In addition to the pumpkin cannon, to celebrate the opening of their u-pick apple orchard, they now have an apple cannon!

It's happy screaming. Yup, I did it again. But then Peter got wind of the idea and started whining about missing all of the fun (he does enjoy his annual Dorky Homemade Gift from Kirsten. So far it’s been chocolate and beer. Does she know how to butter him up! So we decided to move the trip to Saturday, when Peter was off of work and could join us. But it seems her kids had somehow gotten out of their. While we waited I managed to get a hold of Peter and get his advice, but I couldn’t really tell h...

Summer Recap – June | The Westendorf 7
https://westendorf7.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/summer-recap-june
It's happy screaming. Summer Recap – June. Thankfully, June was a lot quieter than May – the main event was hatching our yearly batch of chicks on May 14th (30 little peepers, right next to our bedroom, just in time for Peter’s birthday – he was thrilled, let me tell you! That same morning, we said a tearful goodbye to our old van, Gandalf ( who I’d totalled in December of 2012. So his rabbits’ names were Asher, Bunny, Paul – get it? That Tuesday, the 18th, a friend invited us to go go-karting with them&...

The Annual Westendorf Family Camping Trip | The Westendorf 7
https://westendorf7.wordpress.com/2014/09/16/the-annual-westendorf-family-camping-trip
It's happy screaming. The Annual Westendorf Family Camping Trip. Since they were there anyway (and Mom loves campfires) I talked them into staying for a while, and Dad showed us all how to use the old campfire popcorn popper. But this was a Westendorf camping trip, not a Zoellner trip, so I’d better mention the Westendorfs who were there! 8211; although it had a hard time keeping up. It was technically made to serve 4 people, not 30! The backyard had a volleyball net, and plenty of room for games of fris...
