After shoes we explored further accessories to compliment the shoes in our boutique, beautiful handbags, fantastic hats, leather shawls, scarves, belts, gloves and jewellery. The result is a truly Italian experience, from the music playing; right down to the espresso coffee we give our clients and ‘Prosecco Club’ on a Saturday afternoon.

January 7, 2013. Ginnie as a very little girl. RIP dear aunt Ginnie, who died in the early hours of this morning. Far too soon at 72, but despite that she was ready, with her bags packed as my Mum, who was with her, put it. She will be remembered for her astonishing work in Somalia and here in the UK, with Survival International, with many Oromo. A book dedicated to her by her colleagues at Survival International and many of her own books. The end of an era in our family. From → Uncategorized. Betty Bite...

Far from home. | betty bites
https://bettybites.wordpress.com/2014/08/24/far-from-home
August 24, 2014. Oregon is stunningly beautiful. I drove the coast road once, long ago, and today drove from Portland to Bend though hills, mountains, forests and what looked like African savannah. I hired a car. I’m driving on the right. By myself. Big thing this. It feels very odd to be in his homeland without my husband. Tomorrow I am scheduled to meet Birgit at 8am, at the Second Nature. Why is he there, I hear you clamouring. Why are so far away, why, what, where, when? From → Family. You are commen...

Betty goes to hospital. June 16, 2014. So, now I’m 53 (I had a birthday, you missed it) and still here, still kicking, if not high then at least without falling over every time. This is my last night with a thyroid gland. Tomorrow it will be removed by Mr. Hughes at the BRI – I am told he has very capable, steady hands. This is all quite overwhelming and words don’t come easily to describe what I am feeling. In fact they don’t come at all. I ask that you, my reader (s? Where’s Wally (bee)? Darling good l...

Book Club | betty bites
https://bettybites.wordpress.com/book-club
Some of the books for my local book club have been really good, Cutting for Stone. By Abraham Verghese being the favourite with everyone, some not so good like The 100 Year Old Man Who…. the title is as irritatingly tedious as the book (apologies to Ron who I gave it to for Christmas). Our next one is The Great Gatsby. I didn’t make that evening sadly or would have insisted that the next book be A Fine Balance. What a lovely thing to receive in the post. Leave one →. More on books | betty bites
https://bettybites.wordpress.com/more-on-books
The online book club didn’t really take off, in the way that some ordinary book clubs don’t with the added complication of it being on line and not being able to add separate new posts to that page (technical stuff, and way beyond my powers). So I thought it might be nice to have a page dedicated to books I like, or don’t like, with a few reasons why. All recommendations from others very welcome. Here are some of my recent reads:. Sacred Hunger, Barry Unsworth. Some Hope, Edward St Aubyn. For my real boo...

T’is the season…. December 31, 2014. 8230;to be exhausted. Have a cold. Eat too much. Drink too much. Watch too much telly. Sit in bed and think about going for a walk in the lovely crisp, wintery sunshine and not do it. Look at Facebook so long you actually know other people’s Christmases as well as your own. WARNING this post is about my Christmas so if that might bore you close this page now. Beeleigh Falls, front porch. If ever a house was made for Christmas…. We’ll always have Paris. September 22, 2014. Oregon to Paris. What? The first four nights were spent at the Eldorado Hotel,. A legendary golden king or for our purposes a bonkers hotel in the northern part of the city, near the Place de Clichy. We were on the third floor, overlooking the street and if we craned our necks far enough you could see the tippy top of the Tour Eiffel, at night anyway, when it was lit up like the brazen trollope she is. Knitting with granola | betty bites
https://bettybites.wordpress.com/2014/05/13/knitting-with-granola
May 13, 2014. Tired of paying over the odds for glamorous packaging (100% recyclable of course), with butterflies and grains artfully scattered in muted, natural ink colours I decided to buy a big jar. The contents of the packaging were almost invariably disappointing so I had very little to lose in trying to make my own. I googled it for starters and trawled endless recipes of the best ever. Credit where it’s due) – fairly concise, clear instructions and options for ins and outs. Here is my version.
