Friends of the Band. Billy is currently assigned as a Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Captain at FS 130. After growing up in Scotland in the 60's, he came to the U.S. as a Highland dancer and soccer player. Not until after the September 11, 2001 tragedy, when he traveled back to New York to attend the services of many of the 343 brothers lost at Ground Zero, was he inspired to play the bagpipes. The goal was to bring the honor and tradition of a highland pipe band to one of the largest and premier fire departments in the country, the Los Angeles County Fire Department. For all of these things we are thankful for, as we continue to build upon this foundation with the support of our great Department and the dedication of our brothers and sisters.
