A journal of snips and stitches. Well, I'm back from Stitches West. And it was wonderful to see everyone! I'm afraid I am sans pictures for two reasons: 1) no cameras allowed in the hall, and 2) my husband wanted the camera to take pictures of his new toy. Check it out on his blog. Sent him a spiffy new wood joinery toy to try and write about. He was so excited! So, no pics. *sigh*. Let's see what I can remember in the blur, though! Upon arriving Friday, I stopped by the Full Thread Ahead. Who is honestl...

Musings, Woolgathering, Color. Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Soap, Water And Wool. We have a springtime tradition of making felted eggs. Yesterday I captured the process from start to finish and thought I'd share it with you. Felted eggs through photos. Start with wool roving. I dug through my stash and pulled several bags of roving with lots of different colors. Mixing and matching the colors is half the fun. I decided to use white for the center of my egg. A soft, cushy pillow of fiber. Thanks to all who en...

Dress 'em up or dress 'em down, hand-knitted socks belong in every knitter's wardrobe. The V-shaped lace pattern of this sock reminds me of strings of ivy. The simple 4-row repeat stitch pattern is addictive because the next row is always different and so much fun. This sock is perfect for anyone wanting to try a little lace in their sock without deciphering a mysterious chart. Try a pair, and hopefully the sock knitting bug will cling to you like ivy. If not, maybe the lace bug will get you instead.

Step up the difficulty level of your socks a few notches by using a non-rectangular 12 stitch x 22 row repeat pattern that combines yarn overs and texture on every row. The yarn overs are fairly subtle, leaving the sock a little airy but not too lacy. The curved twisted stitch ribbing adds asymmetry and depth. The finished socks are reminiscent of blue-green fish scales hence the name Pomatomus, the genus of the blue fish. If you are up for a challenge, then the Pomatomus is for you. Cookie A, John Hayes.
