Dames a la Mode: February 2014
http://ladiesinfashion.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Dames a la Mode. February 13, 2014. Millinery Flowers as Trim on Regency Ball Gowns. And I decided on a whim (spurred by a wonderful Southwest sale) to head up to Massachusetts for the Dolley Madison Ball hosted by the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers. I used to live in the Boston area but hadn't been back in over three years, so it was a wonderful opportunity to visit friends and play in Regency clothes in on fell swoop! I decided to actually use some of the hundreds of paper millinery flowers. Each festoon...

Dames a la Mode. January 2, 2012. 2011 Costume Year in Review. I started 2011 by making a resolution- something that I haven't done in years- to produce at least one piece of costume every month. In addition to that broad goal, I also had a list of things I wanted to accomplish:. 1810 working day dress-. 1810 something fancier dress-. 1750s linen gown with robings-. 1750s wool gown with robings-. 1770s campfollower wool gown-. Check again, big time, again! At Gennessee Country Village in June. And then t...
Dames a la Mode: December 2014
http://ladiesinfashion.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Dames a la Mode. December 4, 2014. I had the absolute pleasure to be a model in a recent photoshoot in Fredericksburg, Va with my dear friend Jenny-Rose of the fabulous Jenny la Fleur. Who, incidentally, inspired me to get into costuming a hundred years ago! She just finished cosmetology school and is an WIZARD with historical hair styles. (She's the one who did my 1790s hair last year. She and her friend Treneka, of For the Joy Photography. Photos: For the Joy Photography. What a fun and wonderful day!

Emerald Paste Collet Necklace by Dames a la Mode. 1820 Citrine Bracelet, Aesthetic Engineering Fine Jewels. Want to see more? Historic use ...

Recreating Georgian Jewelry: December 2013
http://colletnecklaces.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
A celebration of Georgian Jewelry of the 18th and 19th centuries. Wednesday, December 25, 2013. But in my world, a Girandole refers to an earring (or brooch, or pendant) which features three dangling jewels hanging off a central piece. I've been lately obsessed with this style ever since Kendra of Demode. Posted a picture of a pair of earrings that are in the collections of Nordiska Museet. I won't steal the picture from Kendra, so head on over to flicker and take a looky loo. Item is dated 1750-1799.

A jacket in the style of Chanel – Fearless Sewing
https://fearlesssewing.wordpress.com/2015/10/08/a-jacket-in-the-style-of-chanel
Just cut the damn fabric already! October 8, 2015. A jacket in the style of Chanel. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, 1960, wearing one of her iconic cardigan suits. I’ll be using the newest Claire Shaeffer pattern from Vogue, #8991. A white-flecked black wool/nylon blend (mostly wool) boucle-type fabric from Hancock Fabrics, charcoal grey silk charmeuse for the lining, and gorgeous pewter and black enamel buttons. It’ll be fun, right? Pewter and black enamel buttons from Treasure Cast. My primary inspiration is ...
Night-blooming Garden Dress – Fearless Sewing
https://fearlesssewing.wordpress.com/2016/09/08/night-blooming-garden-dress
Just cut the damn fabric already! September 8, 2016. My Upton dress party dress project is. I installed the zipper and finished the back seams last night. All that’s left is two hems, hand stitching the lining’s waistline down, and adding a hook and eye to the top of the zipper opening. Here’s a preview of the finished dress, which I’ve dubbed the Night-blooming Garden Dress. The color rendering in my sewing room is strange because the walls are lime-juice green. This entry was posted in Fancy Dress.
Upton dress progress! – Fearless Sewing
https://fearlesssewing.wordpress.com/2016/09/06/upton-dress-progress
Just cut the damn fabric already! September 6, 2016. Holiday weekends can be lifesavers when it comes to making steady progress on projects. This Labor Day weekend I spent mostly in my sewing room working on my hand-printed Upton dress, and I made great progress. Which is good, because my friend’s wedding is next Sunday. Eek! This technique works perfectly, and I use it every time I have to sew a dart. Hand basting darts is tedious. But it works every time! This entry was posted in Progress report. Leave...

18th Century Stays Update – Changes are inevitable | Belle Mode, Belle Histoire

Belle Mode, Belle Histoire. Sewing fashions of the past. 18th Century Stays Update Changes are inevitable. Chemise a la reine. Asymp; Leave a comment. The one major thing I’ve learned throughout my years of historical costuming (or any sewing, really) is that no project goes precisely as expected. Some stick close to the original plans, and others end up diverging widely (or wildly, as the case may be). My 18th century stays project has been no different. Oh no… no, no, no, no. Just, no. It’s not accurat...
