Everytime we speak to friends and family back home all we hear is how bad the winter is, how it is never going to end (not sure that it has yet, so this might not be funny for those of you still suffering! Wednesday, July 30, 2014. After we enjoyed our last sunset and evening at anchor, we woke up and got moving at the crack of dawn (I'm talking 5am people! Because we still had 28 miles to go with a very strong current against us. While under way, we hit a milestone of 6000 nautical miles travelled aboard Topanga, which is 6905 miles and 11112 kilometers, not too shabby if I do say so myself! We finally made it to Montreal! Holy crappers, we did 6000 miles! They even had a fireworks show to welcome us back!

Friday, March 28, 2014. Dexter and I have a Scare. Dexter and I both came into some unfortunate situations, Dexter, luckily, came out unscathed. I on the other hand, was not quite as lucky. I'll start with Dexters scare. Mine is much less romantic, and slightly more dangerous. I was cooking dinner as usual. I lit the oven. I went back to check on it and noticed that it had gone out so I went to re-light it, and KABOOM! So now John will give me a break in the kitchen and take over for a while (yeah right!

Friday, October 10, 2014. Final Accounting – Costs of Cruising. Now the trip complete we can conclude on that all important, often asked but rarely definitively answered issue, the cost of cruising. As a follow up to a previous post Costs of Cruising 1.0. We now have the final accounting. From A to B and back to A over eleven months all bills are in. Drum roll please…. Overall it has cost just over $36K for eleven months, 6000 nautical miles from Montreal to Spanish Virgin Islands and back. That's it!

An Industrial Engineer by training he works in the exciting aerospace industry and is tormented daily by a water view from his office. He has traveled extensively, visiting all but one continent (sail to Australia anyone? His passion for simplicity and limiting accumulation of "stuff" is contagious.
