Laetare was founded in 2013 by Indiana University graduate students Robert Cruz and Priscilla Weaver, and consists solely of volunteers from the IU and Bloomington communities. Priscilla Weaver Gabriel was born in 1988 in Sioux Center, Iowa. She began her formal musical training in 1994 with piano, later adding studies in oboe and organ. Priscilla switched her full concentration to organ as an undergraduate at Grove City College (Grove City, PA), during which time she was the winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Organist Competition.
