相傳清治乾隆年間，閩漳龍溪縣人陳士政等招佃農來台墾拓，初有六家耕稼居於此，遂以「六家佃庄」相稱。嗣後相繼聚居者日眾，對外交往頻繁，而因「家」與「腳」音(台語音)相似，外人誤為「六腳」，成習之後定名為「六腳」，延用至今。 1920年以前設置灣內、六腳佃二區，二區各設役場於灣內、六腳兩部落，隸屬台南府嘉義廳僕仔腳支廳。1920年改制廢區置庄，將灣內、六腳區合併為六腳庄役場，設於六腳隸屬台南縣東石郡朴子街。1921年役場遷於蒜頭，仍稱為六腳庄役場，1946年成立 六腳鄉. 公所，隸屬台南縣東石區；1950年改隸於 嘉義縣. 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
