You have reached the blog for Aaron Schmidt, a Washington State local giving the educational experience a try at the American College of Sofia in Bulgaria. Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Chestita Baba Marta everybody! That is the traditional greeting given to your fellow Bulgarians on the First of March. After giving the greeting, friends take red and white bracelets, necklaces, or pendants called ‘martenitsis’ and attach them on one another. Gordon and I got up yesterday during school but the conditions were ...

You have reached the blog for Aaron Schmidt, a Washington State local giving the educational experience a try at the American College of Sofia in Bulgaria. Friday, January 19, 2007. Got some pictures from my families Jamaican Christmas here. Going through these shots while sitting here in Bulgaria makes me appreciate the little things that make getting together with friends and family so worth it. I look forward to my folks, and hopefully my sister, coming out to visit Eastern Europe in May. Kyle flew do...

You have reached the blog for Aaron Schmidt, a Washington State local giving the educational experience a try at the American College of Sofia in Bulgaria. Friday, December 08, 2006. So finally got through all my shots from the Istanbul trip. I think I shot about 530, before deleting over a hundred. Oh, the pros and cons of digital shooting…. The trip started out pretty well. Gordon, Dusty, Greg and I left Sofia around nine at night. Our bus turned out to be not very crowded at all. We crowded on and got...

http://landlockedsurfphotos.blogspot.com/2008/02/winter-at-mission-ridge.html
A gallery of images made since Fall of 2006. Thursday, February 14, 2008. Winter at Mission Ridge. Here are some of the shots I have compiled so far from the 2007/08 season at Mission Ridge. Making shots in the snow environment has taken a bit getting used to, to say the least. There are so many variables to take into account, time and inclement weather being the biggest ones. Thankfully, I have had the pleasure to be riding with some very patient snowboarders. Looking up into the microwave tower. It's a...

A gallery of images made since Fall of 2006. Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Photos From a Bulgarian Winter. Part of the fortress that looks over the city of Veliko Turnavo. I didn't get chance to actually go up there so it's for sure a place I'll drag my folks too when they arrive. I went back to buy a knife from this shop the next day but it was closed. Friday night prefunk Jager-bombs in between poker hands. Guliama Bulgarski birra molya. (That's your Bulgarian lesson for today.). This is Conner Lyon. ...

A gallery of images made since Fall of 2006. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. Hiking into our last IA of the season, a little "escaped" campfire 6 miles up the Entiat River Trail. It had snowed a bit over the week and a pair of hikers thought they could get a campfire going better if they lit it inside of a root wad. Chris Fezer was working as a Type 5 IC trainee. He's filling out the paperwork that describes how the fire is burning, what caused it, resources at risk etc. Holden manages to stay nearly compl...

A gallery of images made since Fall of 2006. Monday, December 11, 2006. Hitting the road with our fly-by-night bus charter. Istanbul from space. Notice the current of the Bosphorus Straight as it runs out of the Black Sea. This shot confirms what I figured out, Istanbul is one friggin' huge city. Istanbul had virtually no stray dogs. Cats, however, were literally everywhere. These jolly butchers liked getting their picture taken. Gordon and Dusty catching some sun. Outside one of many mosques. Ceiling of...

A gallery of images made since Fall of 2006. Wednesday, September 05, 2007. Not much fire on this particular fire. But we still had to line it anyhow. Here is one of our saw teams tying into a rock face as we started to hook around. Sarah Jeglum, awesome gal and a damn good firefighter. Here is some of the crew along with reinforcements from the Wenatchee Rappeller crew. We found this rattlesnake inside the burn area. The hot gases killed and froze him into place. Kinda creepy. I took this shot on our wa...

A gallery of images made since Fall of 2006. Monday, June 04, 2007. The Mud Creek Gang Takes On Bulgaria. Don't these kids look good? We grabbed this family shot up on the Belmeken pass after a day long hike above the treeline in the Rila mountains. Nevski Cathedral, the first of many churches and monasteries we dragged ourselves through. Despite the grandness they all start to look the same after the ninth one. High ceilings, yellow candles, and cranky monks with long beards. We arrived in Nessebar, on ...

A gallery of images made since Fall of 2006. Wednesday, August 01, 2007. I left Bulgaria on the 31st of June, arriving in the Netherlands for a four day stop over before continuing. The time in Amsterdam was nice and visually intense, very intersting to see this clean and comso city after living in Sofia. City of high speed bipedal traffic and vertically oriented moving techniques. Early morning rain was the typical rule for the whole area, but the locals always seemed to know when the sun would come out.

landlockedseaotter | I respect pigs, I like pigs, but I wouldn't give my pet pig parsnips – Don Burke
I respect pigs, I like pigs, but I wouldn't give my pet pig parsnips Don Burke. Measles hey, rotflmaorofflecopter. Yeah so by now you’ve probably seen this. I’ve attempted to deconstruct it a few times now, each time leaving me more upset and my jimmies more rustled than the last. Before you read my terrible offering, read this one instead. Much better. I’ve also covered why measles is terrible here. There’s so much wrong with it, it’s genuinely upsetting. Of course, prior MMWR. About one out of 10 child...

Landlockedsheller's Blog | Shelling in the city…
Shelling in the city…. Oh the little things…. October 12, 2010. Afternoon kite surfing ballet. It reminded me of sitting with the family exploring the contents of a lightning whelk egg case for an afternoon. We were intrigued by the tiny lightning whelks taking turns with a magnifying glass and tweezers. Such little shells barely more than grains of sand kept us busy and curious for hours realizing that most people walk right by them and never consider taking a moment to take that second glance. Between ...
