Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Africa is the 2nd largest continent in the world, after Asia. Its surface area is 11.7 million square miles. The population of Africa in 2005 was 1,000,010,000 people. Its population density is about 80 people per square mile. There are 53 countries not counting Western Sahara. Central eastern Africa is beleived to be the origin of humans.
