Kauai: Day 6 | Squid Ink
https://sixgables.wordpress.com/2013/10/14/kauai-day-6
Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? October 14, 2013 in adventure. There’s not a whole lot to say about our last day. We had a red eye flight, so we had a whole extra day. We decided to go see some of the nearby waterfalls, buy some souvenirs, and hang out at the Marriott pool. We hadn’t even SEEN the pool yet. Chicken. My gals can clean an old soup carcass like pirhana. I’ve gone native by this point. I want to wear a plumeria bloom every day. We’re already plotting ou...

Kauai: day two | Squid Ink
https://sixgables.wordpress.com/2013/10/08/kauai-day-two
Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? October 8, 2013 in adventure. Okay, so, weddings are over. The peak has been reached, it’s all downhill from here. That was one helluva party. The wedding itself was lovely. The whole thing took place at the Na Aina Kai Botanical Garden. The ceremony was under a tree, followed by cookies and drinks in the hedge maze. So they got married and turned us loose on the cookies and it was lovely, but you know, just nice. A fire was built on the be...

Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? October 5, 2013 in adventure. So, it’s pretty here. We woke to find that this is the view from our room:. We’re at a Marriott property, and they’re always nice, but this one is…grand. Huge columns holding up those open-air spaces that you see on TV. Massive ceramic urns. 10 ft tall concrete fish. Where do these things come from? It there a factory that just makes giant hotel decor? Or maybe the truck filled with them? We got our rental car ...

Kauai: Day Three | Squid Ink
https://sixgables.wordpress.com/2013/10/13/kauai-day-three
Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? October 13, 2013 in adventure. Much to our sadness, Sweet Maries was closed on Sundays. We had to have coffee at (shhh) Starbucks. We stopped by the Coconut Festival in Kapa’a on our way to the wedding brunch. Only these were kids. They went to a school at which the older kids taught the younger. They were really good and utterly adorable. I didn’t pick any up, of course. I’ve seen The Brady Bunch. I wonder how many times a day the front de...

Kauai: Day 5 | Squid Ink
https://sixgables.wordpress.com/2013/10/14/kauai-day-5
Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? October 14, 2013 in adventure. Our early start got us a good parking place and we headed up the mountain. I was wearing my Birkenstocks and feeling pretty smug about my ability to climb rocks with them on. Must be that I’m such an old hand, wearing the ‘Stocks since the 80s, hiking all the time…. Look, lantana just grows wild! Ooo, that’s pretty, take a picture of us in front of that view, which is surely as nice as it gets. As we neared th...

Faerie Festival 2014 | Squid Ink
https://sixgables.wordpress.com/2014/05/08/faerie-festival-2014
Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? May 8, 2014 in Uncategorized. It’s hard to actually write about the Faerie Festival because I get bogged down in looking at old pictures. This was our 11th year heading off to Spoutwood and it was, as always, magical. Fridays in general are a bit more low-key at the Festival, which is why I always go that day. It’s free for kids under 12, so it tends to be a day heavy with baby fae, and who doesn’t love that? Here was my wee faerie, in 2005:.

Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? To Yemen, with love. February 28, 2014 in funny. Although we’ve all read “ Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout. Monday, I noticed that handwritten notes on wee scraps of paper had scattered across the kitchen. I picked them up, unsure which kid they were from, since they have nearly identically dreadful handwriting. I saw this:. The other side of the note from Italy. 8230;PS Come alone. Just WHAT do you think you're doing? Who is this person, anyway? Fill in photos and details. October 12, 2013 in adventure. Before I move forward on my timeline, I’ll fill in the photos that were on my actual camera and the details I forgot because I was jet lagged. I’m now jet lagged in the other direction, but Steve helped jog my memory. We had a layover in LA that was fairly long. Steve’s cousin Arik came to meet us and took us to The Humble Potato. Another shot of the…promenade? That “Feral Moc...
