A "gouffre" is usually a cave with vertical significance whereas a "grotte" has horizontal significance. I am standing at the edge of the parking lot to the Gouffre. I took a short walk to the cemetery this morning, hoping to take lots of photos to show you how beautiful it looks with the abundance of flowers. Unfortunately, the gate was closed and locked tight. I was able, however, to take a few shots between the wrought iron bars. I guess this being Hallowe'en, they worry that some kids will get up to some mischief. Au carrefour de la joie et du bonheur! Sunday, October 4, 2015. Sunday started like all the other Sundays here in La-Roche-Canillac, with the market in front of the church. It's a tiny market, and it got progressively smaller over the last month as the tourists left. Only a few die-hard salespeople remain. It will close at the end of October with a "fête" for all the locals.. Quilters always have a lot in common! I fit right in. He had Muscat grapes and some very tiny sweet ones. Le Sablier du Temps.

When we were at Le Sommelier the other day, I ordered a lunch I rarely order back home: hamburger and fries. The meat was as succulent and tender as the steak haché from the butcher's, and it came with fries that are so crisp and tender that I think they must have a way of cooking them without oil. The salad was light and fresh. What a yummy and filling lunch. All the Light we Cannot See.

Au carrefour de la joie et du bonheur! Tuesday, October 6, 2015. We went for dinner last night at our friends' home, Marine and Ana. Marine prepared a delicious Swiss fondue using authentic Swiss ingredients. We opened a "pétillant" and toasted to health, happiness, long life. What a great evening! We felt among family, given that the portrait of their grand-father was hanging on the wall next to our table. He reminded us a great deal of our Uncle Gunter! The meal was great too! Do you sell aprons? After two months in La-Roche-Canillac, we already know quite a few people well enough to exchange "La Bise". It really makes you feel welcome, that you are part of the group and that you belong. Looks like our Canadian "marmots" have learned how to extend "La Bise" as well! Friendly critters that they are.
