The first time we heard the consultant say, The cancer’s back. We didn’t know Lauren had cancer in the first place. When the lump came back the consultants said there was no rush to start chemo let Lauren enjoy the summer first. But it was ruined because she wouldn’t go to the beach because of the lump on her side. In the end I brought the treatment forward, I couldn’t cope with watching the mass grow. Here at LARF Cornwall we aim to assist in the treatment and care of teenagers and young people under the age of 24 within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as well as improving facilities. Primarily for those receiving cancer and leukaemia treatment. There are 10 trustees in all – 5 who are related to Lauren – Mandy Hoare, Scott Hoare, Darren Hoare, Gill Morgan and Amy Sharp – and 5 who are related to Rosie – Stephen Howis, Tina Howis, Charlie Howis, Terry Quick and Keith Stockham. LARF, standing for Lauren and Rosie’s Fund, was set up in 2010 by the girls’ parents, who’d met each other throughout their daughters’ treatment. Lauren and Rosie’s friendship and ability to stay positive in the face of adversity led to the parents teaming up too. Lauren left a lasting impression on everybody she met during her battle against cancer, and her story is both uplifting and heart breaking at the same time.
