Larry Thorngren - The Wild Photographer. Click image to enlarge or buy. Yellowstone Wolves Hunting Elk. This is the Wolves Elk Hunt Gallery. Wolves in Yellowstone chase a cow elk and her calf. Slober can be seen coming from the mouths of these members of the Hayden Pack as they race past a cow elk. The cycle of life for these animals and their prey is rarely seen by photographers or park visitors. It is much more common to find the wolves after the chase has ended.

One of the lighter gray wolves has a recent cut above his/her eye either from a hunting accident or a fight with other wolves. The black wolf looks to be one of the larger wolves in the national park. The Mollies often hunt buffalo.

WildLife Services uses airplanes like this one to shoot wolves from the air in western states. This agency kills thousands of animals each year to subsidize the livestock industry in the west. I took this photo a few years ago while hiking up Wilcox Pass in Jasper National Park. The Ram had found a small draw in the high country with willows along the small stream. He seemed to relish eating the willow leaves. Bighorns are the easiest of all wildlife to approach and photograph.They are not afraid of humans unless hunted. And a 100-400 Zoom.
