Salida to Twin Lakes. Leadville to Grand Lake →. Twin Lakes to Leadville. July 14, 2015. Four of us left Twin Lakes at 4:30 am to start the 5,000 feet gain up Mount Elbert. Trivia, Tragic, Viper, and me. Elbert is the second highest mountain in the lower 48! Second only to Mount Whitney on the PCT. Then hitched down to Leadville the next day. I was only going to go for lunch…. But the Colorado Trail House hostel was pretty nice and I wanted to check out the town. Ended up staying. Salida to Twin Lakes.

Steamboat Springs to Encampment… To Berkeley! Atlantic City to Pinedale →. Rawlins, south to Encampment, north to Atlantic City. August 4, 2015. Hitching is illegal in Rawlins because there is a state penitentiary there. This explains why I could not get a ride across the overpass from the Greyhound stop at the gas station. So on my return trip, I had to hike south from Rawlins back down to Encampment, then do the same hitch back north to Rawlins that I did the first time around. I’m a flip-flopper!

Bus trip into the park. July 17, 2015. This is a very narrow road. I chose to go out to Wonder Lake hoping the mountain would be visible. Wonder Lake is much closer to the mountain and many classic photos were made here. It is an 11 hour round trip to mile 85. Way too long to be on a bus. Can you find the bear?

Pinedale was going to be a quick stop, but the weather was rather intimidating, so I took a couple hours to hang out with Viper and Tragik who I hadn’t seen in a couple weeks. We went to the Pinedale Aquatic Center which was fantastic. $5 entry fee, and the place was spotless. Showers, a rope swing and diving board into the deep pool, and a lazy river and water slide into a second pool. Climbing wall and indoor track and weight room as well. Atlantic City to Pinedale.
