Julian in the garden: August 2009. Julian in the garden. My take on all things green and growing. Monday, 10 August 2009. The battle for my cabbages is in full swing. The foes are slugs, which I am doing fairly well at combatting with the use of organic slug pellets (safe to birds, children and animals, not necessarily in that order), and cabbage white butterflies. As you can see in the picture, I am using a reasonably fine mesh - but to my horror, the butterflies are managing to squeeze through.

Julian in the garden: September 2009. Julian in the garden. My take on all things green and growing. Monday, 28 September 2009. I spent the glorious Sunday afternoon putting in new fence panels and gravel boards and almost got sunburnt in the process (didn't think it possible for end of September). I must commend the supplier of my lap panels and concrete gravel boards, AVS Fencing. Tuesday, 15 September 2009. Rain - at last. Thank goodness for the downpour this morning. Keep it coming. The protest was a...

Friday, 8 July 2011. It is with deep regret that we witness the passing of a once great newspaper. Having set up the News of the World's initial web presences prior to Andy Coulsen's editorship, I felt it right to pass some comment on the events of the past few days. Mr Murdoch is not losing a Sunday paper - the NOTW will be replaced by a seventh-day edition of The Sun (something he has wanted to do for years with his broadsheets). He will also achieve the reduction in staff levels that will make the...

Friday, 27 November 2009. Watch out - there's a thief about. I am saddened by articles like this one. That appeared in the Economist where certain people in our society seek to spoil things for the rest of us. The number of online scams and phishing attacks is at an all-time high and cyber criminals are seeking to be come more and more sophisticated in their illicit campaigns. Monday, 23 November 2009. LaunchPlusOne: Meagre pickings at Internet World. Wednesday, 28 April 2010. Meagre pickings at Internet World. I can understand last year's Internet World exhibition being sparsely populated by the leading players in the digital industry - let's face it, we were knee-deep in the economic downturn. But with a number of green shoots around in 2010, I was expecting much more than I experienced during my visit yesterday. View my complete profile. Meagre pickings at Internet World.

LaunchPlusOne: Third World mobile internet. Friday, 25 June 2010. Third World mobile internet. I was very interested to learn the other day that mobile internet is more of a phenomenon in third world countries, especially Africa, than broadband internet. I would expect price (i.e. PC/laptop versus handset) and geography (i.e. large distances and sparsely populated areas) to be among the deciding factors for this - but it would seem that broadband infrastructure also plays a part. Friday, 14 August 2009. One sector that LaunchPlusOne is very active in at the moment is the deployment of tactical applications. We identify commercial and editorial opportunities, generally for publishers of digital content. We then develop widgets, mashups and killer apps, which are low cost and bring immediate user benefit, and deploy them on the client's website. If you are interested in seeing what way may be able to do for you, please get in touch. Wednesday, 12 August 2009. Might be the reason why.
