domestic legion: October 2006
http://domesticlegion.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 30, 2006. One year, when Allison was probably about 3 or 4 years old, she enjoyed Halloween with especial enthusiasm. Our neighbor, Lynette Jensen, told us months later that Allison had been trick-or-treating at their house every day since Halloween, and they had obligingly rewarded her with candy each day. I guess Allison thought it was a great racket. We had to fill her in on the seasonal nature of the shake-down. Posted by gamma @ 1:55 PM. Thursday, October 26, 2006. The screen that Da...

Wednesday, August 02, 2006. September 25, 1983 was the date of the last entry in the family journal. To wrap it up, I did a quick review of where we all stood. David, age 29, was in good physical condition, serving as ward financial clerk, and doing well at Cyma. Gordon, having turned six and in first grade, was "such a little man." He loved to tease his sisters, but was a good student and a good helper at home. And that's the end of the journal. Posted by gamma @ 9:48 AM. Tuesday, August 01, 2006. On Se...

Sunday, April 30, 2006. Cultural Touchstone: Where were you? Many Church members have clear memories of what they were doing when they heard that priesthood ordination was extended to all worthy male members. My memories are not as clear as this journal entry:. It was an astonishing and joyous moment. I felt that if I could live to see this day, when events foreseen for millenia could come to pass so dramatically, I could live to see the Second Coming. Posted by gamma @ 4:37 PM. Monday, February 27, 2006. Rainy Days and Mondays. The rain, rain, rain, came down, down, down. In rushing, rising, rivlets.". From that Winnie-the-Pooh movie. As I slipped and slithered on the freeway today, because today was errand day whatever the weather, I wished I was home. But I'm home now, none the worse for wear, the damp coat airing on the back of the chair, and now- now I'm enjoying the sound of the rain. Posted by gamma @ 7:38 PM. Saturday, February 25, 2006. Friday, November 24, 2006. Gordon gets up in the morning. Gordon and I had battles of will more than once, and one of the most memorable occurred when he was around ten years old. He was in bed and wouldn't get up, despite reminders, pleas, and threatenings. Finally I went to his bedside with a glass of water in my hand. If you don't get up," I said, "I will pour this glass of water over your head.". You wouldn't do that," he answered smugly. Yes, he did. Posted by gamma @ 6:06 PM. The first step was to ...

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Laura was born on August 26, 1979. My Aunt Nita was also born on August 26. Aunt Nita is one of the favorite aunts on the Bradshaw side, always laughing and ready for fun. When she learned that Laura was born on her birthday, she was ecstatic. She called our baby "Little Anita Joy," and presented her with an adorable ceramic kangaroo that rocked on her long feet (balanced by her tail) and had a little joey (removeable) curled up in her front pocket. Wednesday, March 29, 2006. Christmas 1977 will forever live in our minds as The Year We Sold Christmas Trees. Was winter ever really so cold in Arizona? My memories are of frosty breath, of bundling up, of selling dark crisp trees and collecting checks and cash with icy fingers. Perhaps it was because I had a tiny baby, wrapped against the cold. Perhaps it was drinking Postum- Postum! Posted by gamma @ 9:07 AM. Tuesday, March 28, 2006. And where was this apartment? Posted by gamma @ 7:41 AM. It was a tin...

Saturday, July 29, 2006. On August 29, 1983 Gordon started first grade at Highland elementary school. He had Mrs. Blackwell, who was a great teacher, and he lost his brand-new lunchbox on the first day of school. The second day of school was his birthday, so he took cookies for the class. Posted by gamma @ 9:31 AM. Friday, July 28, 2006. Gordon, who would soon be six, had a Return-of-the-Jedi party. The party was much like Laura's, only not Winnie-the-Pooh- who knows what they watched? Tuesday, July 25, ...
