Because I don't have a fireplace mantel to decorate, every holiday I jazz up our credenza that sits in the living room. I bought it from a resale shop (it came with a top piece which I'm currently using as a dresser) and had plans for my TV to go above it, but the hubs didn't want to part with our big, huge, bulky IKEA entertainment center and. I like to mix it up each year instead of always doing the traditional red and dark green. I'm more a fan of lime green anyway! I made this fabric scrap banner in about 15 minutes and it's so easy the kids can help. It's a free (or really cheap) way to add a colorful impact because you can hang it anywhere! All you need are:. Chalkboards can be pricey. but not if you make your own! Most people have an ugly ol' picture laying around and if you don't you can get them at garage sales or thrift stores on the cheap! A framed picture you're not afraid of covering up. Spray paint for the frame (mine was white). Chalkboard spray paint. that's it! Don't use for 24 hours.

You could put whatever you want in the spaces but for this purpose I made this box for Sam so I made it for art. I used a Nike box because of its vibrant orange color but you could wrap one in paper to disguise it if all you have laying around are shoeboxes with lots of branding on them! I ♥ Pinterest.

Monday, August 3, 2009. I arrived home yesterday afternoon after 2 flights and a car ride. I haven't had a lot of time to process everything yet but I am so happy to be home with friends and family.
