Lauren in Brazil

Wednesday, 16 May 2012. Slept in hammacks and had plenty of time with all of the other exchange students. These were just some of the things that we saw. It was an experience like no other. Every time I think that my exchange can't get any better, I keep getting surprised. Thursday, 29 March 2012. Is it always cold there? Do you get rain? The month of march went by so quickly! Thursday, 16 February 2012. At the Cristo in Rio! The amazing shoes we had to wear before our cave adventure. View of a Favela.

Lauren in Brazil: Northeast

http://www.lauren-in-brazil.blogspot.com/2012/01/northeast.html

Sunday, 29 January 2012. Finally one of the most exciting parts of my exchange arrived : the Northeast trip! On our trip, we started off in the mainland and worked our way up all the way to Natal and now we are coming back down on the coast of Brazil. We are unfortunately almost done our trip, but we have visited so many amazing places! I am having a blast and this is definitely one of the best times of my life. Thank you to everyone who made this whole exchange possible. View my complete profile.

Lauren in Brazil: September 2011

http://www.lauren-in-brazil.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Monday, 19 September 2011. Also, I have realized that the most universal language is music. No matter where you are from or what you like everyone likes to listen to music. And it also tells a lot about a culture. And it's definitely one if my favorite parts here. And of course the people are amazing as well. To all the Rotarians who read this I would just like to thank you for the opportunity that I have been given and I wish that everyone could share this experience with me. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Lauren in Brazil: March

http://www.lauren-in-brazil.blogspot.com/2012/03/march.html

Thursday, 29 March 2012. One part about being an exchange student is that you get asked a lot of dumb questions about your country. Sometimes it's funny, but sometimes it just makes you wonder where these people live. I've heard all sorts of things, some of the normal stereotypes about Canada like: 'Do you have summer in Canada? Is it always cold there? Do you get rain? The month of march went by so quickly! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Turkey or Bust: July 2009

http://maeghaninturkey.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Welcome to my web diary documenting my year living in Istanbul, Turkey. Tuesday, July 28, 2009. I'm pleased to inform you all that I'm home safe and sound. My friends showed up at the airport with a giant "Welcome Home Maeghan! Sign and turkeys painted on their chests. This morning I woke my brother up at 8:30 because I was bored. Not sure he appreciated that, but until I start sleeping at normal times again, he'll just have to deal. =D It's good to be home. Saturday, July 25, 2009. Monday, July 20, 2009.

Turkey or Bust: The Communists!

http://maeghaninturkey.blogspot.com/2009/07/communists.html

Welcome to my web diary documenting my year living in Istanbul, Turkey. Thursday, July 2, 2009. I nearly fell out of a moving van today fleeing the communists! I must admit, the statement was much more epic than the explanation. Carly, Juliana, and Valeria all leave tonight/tomorrow morning. I'm "sleeping" at Carly's house and going to the airport with her. I still find myself trying to make plans involving students who've been gone for a month. I can't imagine when it's only Valerio and I. 3 days.Ju...

Welcome to my web diary documenting my year living in Istanbul, Turkey. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. 10 Days and Counting. So for lack of anything better to do, I'm reading the Lufthansa restrictions on carry-on luggage and I'm finding them way more entertaining than they should be. Favorites include:. Items you cannot bring in your carry-on:. Okay, can someone please tell me the difference between a fake weapon and a false weapon? No sharp items, no blunt items. doesn't that rule out, like, everything?

Turkey or Bust: June 2009

http://maeghaninturkey.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Welcome to my web diary documenting my year living in Istanbul, Turkey. Monday, June 29, 2009. By the end of the week, all the other students will be gone. I cannot believe it. The last week has been all goodbyes. We've been shopping at the Grand Bazaar and Taksim. We took trips to Sultan Ahmet and Ortakoy (famous, touristy places). Now it's down to packing. Juliana just laughed at me. Tomorrow is more Grand Bazaar. I swear, if I get called the Spice Girls one more time. Friday, June 26, 2009. For us exc...

Welcome to my web diary documenting my year living in Istanbul, Turkey. Saturday, February 28, 2009. Here's a regular weekend breakfast at my house. Very Turkish. This is "reçel". Yes it translates to jam. No I don't consider them the same thing. Orange Reçel (My Favorite! I ate this entire thing with breakfast this morning. Er That Fruit. That's Freakish-Looking? I don't know what this one is. It's almost spicy, and the fruit is queer. Friday, February 27, 2009. Yup, updating you that I did nothing today.

Welcome to my web diary documenting my year living in Istanbul, Turkey. Thursday, September 25, 2008. What exactly is Active Future Perfect Continuous? Answer, using the verb walk-. Will have been walking. Passive Past Simple with the verb sell? Two things to say today. Only two. (I'm thinking that if I say that, I won't go off in random directions like I usually do.) First, I met a Calgarian today. Way random, eh? So I'm coming out of the dining hall and a teacher stops me to talk. Me too. What part?

http://maeghaninturkey.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Welcome to my web diary documenting my year living in Istanbul, Turkey. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. İstanbul Snow = Charlie Chaplin Style Fun. So we got like, 1 cm of snow last night. This wreaked havoc on the city. And made my ride to school the best morning ever. I saw busses stopped with passengers getting out to push, taxis spinning their wheels in the snow, cars abandoned by the side of the road, vehicles unable to get up a hill about as steep as. oh wait, it wasn't steep at all! Good day. Also?

Laughing...Like It's My Job

Laughing.Like It's My Job. Friday, August 14, 2015. There are a lot of hurt people out there. Hurt people tend to hurt other people - it's a vicious cycle. I've done it, and I've seen it. And since we only have one go-around in this crazy beautiful world, you had better make this round count. We are all delt a hand we have no control over. I could sit around forever lamenting my hand, and feeling loss for what I don't have. And what a waste of time to do anything but move forward! Need help getting up?

Lauren in Hungary

Thursday, November 18, 2010. The highlight of the week was a road trip to and through Romania, the local neighbour. Even though Romania entered the EU some years ago, I think many of us still have a certain prejudice when it comes to Romania, no? There are no highways in Romania, you're lucky to be on a descent sealed road that winds its way through small villages and a gorgeous landscape. From Budapest it's a 4 hr drive to the border and we then travelled to Cluj-Napoca, Sighi. Oara, Sibiu, Timi. Anothe...

Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Let The Good Times Roll :). This weekend was exhausting but a lot of fun! This weekend the program I am in took us to D.C! It was so great getting away from the NYC. As my British friend said "it felt like a holiday! What struck me most about D.C. is that it had no sky scrappers and it was so green! That night we stayed near Georgetown's campus and so a group of us went out to see what their campus was like! I was exhausted when I got back! Where did the time go? More updates to c...

Habari za safari?

One girl, two years, a mission to "promote world peace and friendship" in a small village in rural Tanzania. Will she succeed? Stay tuned to find out. Sunday, August 25, 2013. I hate having that really depressing "readjustment is hard" post as the top post here, so I thought I'd throw out a quick life update and also a poem that one of my Tanzanian counterparts wrote for me as a going away present. Mwalimu Sultan is on the left here, working on inventory for the library project with Mwalimu Zakaria.
