Paul's Blog: The Japan I was thinking of - Kyoto
http://pdmazza.blogspot.com/2011/01/japan-i-was-thinking-of-kyoto.html
Monday, January 17, 2011. The Japan I was thinking of - Kyoto. The view over Kyoto from the front of the Ryozen-Kwannon Temple. National Rail take note! Rant over. Nevertheless when we neared Kyoto and passed by the massive Lake Biwa, the snow subsided and started to disappear. It looked as if the mountains that surround the city had managed to hold the clouds at bay for the time being. Is that a Geisha I see? Took great pleasure in watching her. This is just the front gate! The Imperial Palace, Kyoto.

Friday, February 18, 2011. Beijing - Part 1. When we arrived in Beijing we were really tired, so we just took our time checking in, having a shower and decided to have a lazy day. However we thought that we would go and see the Peking Opera in the evening to make sure that we didn’t completely write off the day. What a crazy experience! The chances are that you will have heard Peking Opera at some point in your life. You can tell because it sounds like a cat being strangled! Sorry about the lack of updat...

Wednesday, January 26, 2011. They are tame and don't mind you going up to them or patting them but if they see any sign of food on your person, RUN! They literally chase you down nibbling at you. We had been warned about this by other travellers, but we witnessed it first hand when a Japanese guy made the mistake of taking a sip of drink from his bag and the next thing you know there is a horde of deer harassing the poor guy. It was hilarious though. Having a laugh, much! We arrived in Tokyo quite late s...

Monday, March 7, 2011. After a pretty terrible night’s sleep on the train (it was freezing! Towards the Small Goose Pagoda. So zingy breadcrumbs in a bun it was for me! The Big Goose pagoda was still fantastic in its own right though and to my relief it was missing all the tat that spoilt the one earlier. So we spent some time enjoying that….until Lauren decided to give me a dead leg in the good knee! To be fair I had pinched her arm earlier on, but I think hers definitely hurt more than mine! After leav...

Monday, March 7, 2011. Tuesday morning began like most others…. an early start with the promise of a lot of energy consumption! That evening we had arranged to meet up with some friends we had made in Shanghai and to find the Wangfujing night market. However after finding a market we didn’t realise until after, that it wasn’t the market we were looking for, it was actually the snack market not the food market. But we enjoyed the evening nonetheless and the food was good. We had been wondering what we wer...

Paul's Blog: Our Epic Bike Ride

Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Our Epic Bike Ride. They nip in between pedestrians when there really isn't space for them and when they can't get past on the pavement they just jump onto the road. I even had a few close calls because they fly round blind corners and just hope for the best! It was nice to actually get to the temple complex as the bike ride from south to north was a good couple of miles and up hill too! We've seen many beautiful things since we've been on this trip but this definitely rates ...
