Too Hick To Be Square: Here's What Others Have Been Saying About Jo

Too Hick To Be Square. Insights into life in a large family. Sunday, June 19, 2016. Here's What Others Have Been Saying About Jo. When Jo signed up to go to Guatemala, I don't think she realized just exactly what she was getting herself into. To be more specific, when she decided to raise $19,000 to drill a well for the village, I don't think she realized how much work it would be to raise that much money. Guess who went door to door in town and solicited donations from businesses there? Big smile, Jo!

Too Hick To Be Square: September 2015
http://toohicktobesquare.blogspot.com/2015_09_01_archive.html
Too Hick To Be Square. Insights into life in a large family. Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Here's a little tool I bet you've never seen before. This gadget is officially called a honey refractometer. As a rule of thumb, it's fine to assume that everything that's capped is honey, but that's not always the case, and the honeyometer is a more accurate guide. I can't explain to you exactly how a refractometer works. Because I'm about as clueless to it's fine workings as you are. What I do know about the h...

Too Hick To Be Square: Things Learned in Guatemala: How to Throw Up While Wearing A Necklace

Too Hick To Be Square. Insights into life in a large family. Saturday, July 2, 2016. Things Learned in Guatemala: How to Throw Up While Wearing A Necklace. Well, Jo and Mom made it back from their mission trip in Guatemala alive, intact (and pretty smelly to boot). Their return isn’t exactly breaking news anymore, since they’ve been back for an entire week now, but I get around to these things when I can—and that’s rarely immediately. A Guatemala-based humanitarian organization focused on meeting the nee...

Too Hick To Be Square: February 2016

Too Hick To Be Square. Insights into life in a large family. Sunday, February 28, 2016. Hereditary joint ache dubbed "migrating hypochondria". I’ve gotten a lot of things from my family. My sense of humor, home-canning skills, and tendency to run around barefoot are just a couple, but a lot of who I am can be directly linked to my family. One of the lesser known things I owe my family are my joint aches, which are a surprisingly interesting aspect of my life. Pretty much what I’ve got. You see, although ...

Too Hick To Be Square. Insights into life in a large family. Saturday, April 23, 2016. Old paint is still good for things–even if it's pink! The Clan has a bunch of paint cans like that, except we intentionally got ours. This probably sounds a little dumb, because why would you actually seek out. More dibs and dabs of old paint to fill your garage with? Don’t we have enough already? I like to think they ran out of blue paint and had to choose another. Sunday, April 17, 2016. I know, I know. You’...

Too Hick To Be Square. Insights into life in a large family. Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Counter-Mousing meets Minnesota Nice. Maybe you've never heard that term. Probably you haven't. The Clan coined it years ago to refer to the strange and gradual disappearing act that unfailingly overcomes any food left uncovered on our counters. Pro tip: If you can pick the top off an apple crisp without burning your fingers or leaving obvious holes in the crust, you're well on your way to becoming an expert.).

Too Hick To Be Square: December 2015
http://toohicktobesquare.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html
Too Hick To Be Square. Insights into life in a large family. Tuesday, December 29, 2015. I count myself lucky to belong to a family of people who like each other. I'm not just talking about my siblings here, although that's definitely a good thing. But my extended family also gets along really well, and we genuinely enjoy being around each other. This makes family get-togethers a lot. We all know what they're talking about so it's all good. Somehow I don't think Skinny is singing very tunefully just now.
