I've been meaning to post this video made by some of the students at work for ages and it's possible that some of you may have seen Dr Kei Takashina demonstrating this on QI a while ago. It’s called the Leidenfrost effect and it’s where a liquid drops onto a plate that is much hotter than the liquid’s boiling point.
