Middle Passages: Birds of a Feather
http://middlepassages-lcs.blogspot.com/2015/08/birds-of-feather.html
Monday, August 10, 2015. Birds of a Feather. I was going for a picture of the hummingbird. But then these guys showed up. Anyone know what they are? I took the photos through a window, so they're not the best. But this is less about the photos and more about the lesson. I spend a lot of time watching for hummingbirds, and don't usually pay that much attention to what else is out there. Perhaps I need to broaden my horizons. Wishing you all a week filled with bright surprises. Labels: bright bird suprises.

Middle Passages: Placeholder

Monday, August 3, 2015. Seals and seagulls waiting for the fishermen to arrive. An Osprey. Also known as a fish eagle, sea hawk, river hawk, or fish hawk. My first. Kite surfing on Cape Cod Bay. I've heard of it, but never seen it. Kite surfing at Monomoy National Wildlife Preserve. Believe it or not.the picture doesn't do it justice. In my last post, I wrote about life being in the details. That was another one. Alex J. Cavanaugh. I bet kite surfing is exhausting. August 3, 2015 at 6:07 AM. Superb photo...

Middle Passages: August 2015
http://middlepassages-lcs.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 17, 2015. Church of the Jetty - 2015. When we drove home from a family party in the middle of a thunderstorm Saturday night, it didn’t occur to me that Sunday would be a “Church of the Jetty”. Day, but it should have. Lightning flickered purple over the highway, thunder bashed overhead, and window-wipers flogging back and forth struggled to keep up. But when I woke at 6:30 in the morning, it was clear as the blue sky outside my window that the storm had cleaned things out. One lone fisherm...

Middle Passages: January 2015
http://middlepassages-lcs.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 26, 2015. I’m not sure if this will last, but I’ve decided to try to photograph at least one sunrise or one sunset a week in 2015. If I do, I’ll have 52 photos to stack side by side. T. He effort is helping me to recognize how much beauty remains, even through these dark days of winter. But while making my way to the water before sunup in January is doable, oh Lord, it’s cold. Es, I was wearing mittens. W. I headed up to our reservoir, where I’ve never been in the winter. A couple of year...

Middle Passages: To be, or Wanna be - That is the Question.

Wednesday, August 5, 2015. To be, or Wanna be - That is the Question. This is my August contribution to Alex Cavanaugh's Insecure Writer's Support Group, a blog hop all about writers helping writers. To read more posts, click here. When I started this blog six years ago, the goal was to hold myself accountable to writing regularly. It was an easy objective really, because I was recently (and traumatically) unemployed and had the time, as well as a whole lot of emotion needing release. When I get stuck, t...

Middle Passages: July 2015
http://middlepassages-lcs.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2015. I know why I love summer. Light clothes and flip-flops, fresh tomatoes warm off the vine, walking on the beach and skedaddling back from the froth at shore-line. These are the things I wait for all winter. But also it seems, each year during the summer months, I can count on a weekend to arrive and deliver unexpected joy. I'll think each time as it happens. This is the one. Late in the afternoon, we found ourselves trekking through Monument Square, and to the top of the Westin H...

Middle Passages: Markers
http://middlepassages-lcs.blogspot.com/2015/07/markers.html
Tuesday, July 21, 2015. The front of our property is lined with stone too, a tumbled row of rocks placed. Back when our road was the major north-south byway,. Long before the two lane highway was built. I like our wall the way it is, a bit toppled, covered with moss and lichen, speaking a language of history and antiquity. Two houses across the way have had their stone walls rebuilt and they look nice, straight, planned, beautiful even. But they no longer conjure up evidence of what came before. Quite lo...

Middle Passages: February 2015
http://middlepassages-lcs.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 23, 2015. Here's the truth. I'm tired of talking about it. I'm tired of shoveling it. I'm tired of driving in it. And I'm aggravated as all get out that I can't see over it. But it's fun to photograph. Monday, February 16, 2015. We are housebound and it's my fault. I put a goal in print to try to photograph one sunrise or sunset a week this year, and as soon as I did, Mother Nature stopped cooperating. It really is quite amazing how much snow we have around here. Patience people. Can...

Middle Passages: October 2014
http://middlepassages-lcs.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 27, 2014. My husband joined me for a walk last Saturday, and we ended up down by the harbor, where a new home for the town sailing club is taking shape. It’s a shingled building with porches and decks as well as a high widow’s walk, accessible by steps from the outside. So, of course we climbed up there. We’ve seen all manner of views of our harbor over the years, but being this high, in this place was new. We returned to the car soaked. By Friday, our yard was littered in branches. When ...
