The Leadhead's Pencil Blog: March 2015

https://leadheadpencils.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

The Leadhead's Pencil Blog. Click on any picture to see it in greater detail). Thursday, March 26, 2015. This isn't a "break.". Sometimes as I'm tugging on a thread, it unravels a sweater. The one I started tugging on about two weeks ago is unraveling something much bigger. There's a lot of moving parts to this story. Once I put all the pieces together, I'll be back . . . Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Ringing a Couple More Bells. That, I thought, was a significant step towards nailing that down . . ...Tuesd...

The Leadhead's Pencil Blog. Click on any picture to see it in greater detail). Sunday, July 5, 2015. This Might Have Made Things Easier. I’m often in my own world at pen shows these days, with my portable photography setup in a quiet corner, snapping away shots of things people bring to show me, either for here at the blog or for the Pennant. In case you didn’t know, I’m editing the Pen Collectors of America’s magazine these days). Imperial blue, in fact:. Jerry knew I would have to have this one. First,...

The Leadhead's Pencil Blog. Click on any picture to see it in greater detail). Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Note: this is the second installment in a series of articles which started yesterday. To start from the beginning, see http:/ leadheadpencils.blogspot.com/2015/06/nailed-it-pretty-much.html. It’s a guarantee, entitling the bearer to return for repair any pen or pencil “made by us,” but there’s no indication who “us” was. The Leadhead's Pencil Blog. Click on any picture to see it in greater detail). Friday, July 10, 2015. A Few More Flavors. No, about the only thing to do when you are hunting Parker depression pencils is to look for different colors. But, oh, how much fun that one simple task is! It’s been awhile since I’ve added any to this mini-collection, but at the Chicago Show three additional colors came my way, one from Jon Rosenbaum’s estate, and two from Pete Kirby:. But the third one takes the cake:. 8220;Camouf...

The Leadhead's Pencil Blog: Back to the Drawing Board

The Leadhead's Pencil Blog. Click on any picture to see it in greater detail). Monday, August 26, 2013. Back to the Drawing Board. What is unusual is when I’m. Just a few weeks ago on July 8, I wrote an article here about an interesting pencil marked “Guild” that John Coleman shared with me (“One for the Fourth Edition,” at http:/ leadheadpencils.blogspot.com/2013/07/one-for-fourth-edition.html). That sure looked conclusive to me – “Guild,” in the same Olde English script, with “M...I knew it was a stret...

2015 July 22 « Fountain Pen Restoration

https://munsonpens.wordpress.com/2015/07/22

Way back in May of 2011, I wrote about Sheaffer Lady Skripsert Pens. They are an interesting collectible, easy to clean, restore, use, and it is easy enough to find some of the common variations and patterns. Well, as has been the case since fountain pens came into existence, once a style of pen becomes popular, you can count on someone else to duplicate it. This is the case of the Sheaffer Skripsert. I have come across four examples in orange, pink, maroon, and light blue-green. And a few weeks later, t...

Moore Fingertip Variation « Fountain Pen Restoration

https://munsonpens.wordpress.com/2014/02/25/moore-fingertip-variation

I am always on the look out for these pens in need of restoration. Previously, I have written about restorations of two of these pens. 8211; dated September 6, 2012, and. Moore Fingertip – Generation 2. 8211; dated January 25, 2013. Below is the pen after I took it apart, showing the silver cap and short clip, feed, section, old sac (which was too big and must have been placed there by a later repair job) and barrel. The lever was left in the pen as it was in fine working order. The silver section is lar...

Moore Fingertip Variation Set « Fountain Pen Restoration

https://munsonpens.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/moore-fingertip-variation-set

Moore Fingertip Variation Set. I have previously written posts about the Moore Fingertip. 8211; September 6, 2012. Moore Fingertip Generation 2. 8211; January 25, 2013. 8211; February 25, 2014. This restoration is of a Pen and Pencil set of the smaller variant metal capped Moore Fingertip. As you can see below, the pen is pretty clean and just needs a new sac. These smaller Fingertips take a size 14 sac and the small barrel size makes for a very short cut and not a lot of ink. As you may have noticed, I ...

Moore Fingertip « Fountain Pen Restoration

https://munsonpens.wordpress.com/2012/09/06/moore-fingertip

The Moore Fingertip Pen is a fountain pen I have been in search of for quite some time. I have run across a few, but they have been in distressed external condition. Recently, this pen crossed my path and I made a nice trade for it. The pen measures a 5 1/8 inches closed and a substantial 6 3/8 inches posted. Given the fit of the cap, I would think most would write without posting the cap. From 1946 (Saturday Evening Post) – this is a rare advertisement for the Fingertip, aimed at the graduate. As mentio...

Vintage Pen News: Another illustration of hard rubber cap manufacture

http://vintagepensblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/another-illustration-of-hard-rubber-cap.html

A blog about antique and vintage writing instruments: fountain pens, mechanical (propelling) pencils, dip pens, and more. Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Another illustration of hard rubber cap manufacture. The cap on this Wirt slip-cap eyedropper nicely illustrates how such caps were made, as discussed here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Vintage Pens Website (home). Vintage Pens site map. First, here are some photos of Darrell Eisner’s pen. Below are the two vintage long short pens in need of restoration. The top group is an unbranded black bulb filler and the second narrative is a Diamond Point, a brand known by many collectors. As you can see, the unbranded bulb filler has a transparent barrel which had discolored quite a bit. The Diamond Point had a hardened sac as well, and the usual nib – section – feed stains. Just for fun, and comparison, below are photos of a few additional long s...

Moore Fingertip Generation 2 « Fountain Pen Restoration

https://munsonpens.wordpress.com/2013/01/25/moore-fingertip-generation-2

Moore Fingertip Generation 2. I recently restored and wrote about a Moore Fingertip Fountain Pen on September 6, 2012. Briefly, Fingertips were produced by Moore from 1946 to 1950. More information on them can be found in the link above. Below is the exploded view of the pen. There was no old sac inside, leading me to believe that a previous owner had taken it apart, and not finished the restoration job. Less work for me! Here is a photo of the size 18 sac and section/nib, prior to insertion in the barrel.
