Tulips, Large and Small – Leafing Out

https://leafingoutblog.wordpress.com/2016/05/05/tulips-large-and-small

Gardening in the Midwest. Tulips, Large and Small. May 5, 2016. May 23, 2016. Many of my tulips are fading because of the hot weather, but a few of the late-blooming ones still look fresh. This is the first year I’ve grown Tulip ‘New Design’ and I was delighted to notice that it has variegated leaves. I think it looks nice along the edge of a pathway. On the smaller side, but not less bold, are these species tulips. Tulip ‘Little Beauty’ is a bright pink with a beautiful pattern inside. May 29, 2016.

Gardening in the Midwest. Today’s Feature: Iris ‘Elainealope’. May 26, 2016. May 26, 2016. This morning brought a lovely surprise – the first flowers on an iris I planted last fall, ‘Elainealope.’ This one is nice alongside the yellow blooms of. And it has a surprisingly strong scent. Each petal is streaked irregularly with darker purples and blues. There are half a dozen other blue irises flowering around the yard. I believe these are from a mix I bought at Brecks. Dahlia ‘Dreamy Inspire’. May 29, 2016.

Gardening in the Midwest. The First Butterflies of Spring. May 1, 2016. May 23, 2016. We have a very small yard but grow many native plants in order to provide habitat for pollinators, from bees to butterflies. Not only do these insects bring color and movement to the garden, they also help pollinate our fruit crops. Today I spotted one of the first butterfly visitors of the year: an American Lady,. 2 Comments Add yours. Pingback: Be Careful What You Squish – Leafing Out. May 25, 2016 at 7:53 pm. May 29,...

I know, I know, it’s spring already. Days are longer, more sunshine. Etc. Blah blah, whatever. I’m not feeling it. I’m feeling mopey and dopey, unmotivated, unenthusiastic, and generally bleh. Lately I’ve been trying to plan a trip to somewhere. I get excited about it for all of a day and then I lose interest. In the place. In traveling. In leaving the house. There’s a big snow storm outside right now too. The groundhog was right. March 21, 2018. Growing season is afoot! A girl can dream. March 16, 2018.
