September 2014 - The League of Augsburg

http://leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

The League of Augsburg. Monday, September 29, 2014. New Horse and Musket rules: Snow game 3 Skane War 1676. I had a hankering to put on a Skane War scenario after seeing Soren and Michael's wonderful efforts coming out of Stockholm. 5 Danish units on left, 3 Swedish units on the right. Garden til Fods: Veteran with flintlocks and socket bayonets (24 models) Colonel: The Hector. Characters: Ensign, 2 x drummers, 2 x sergeants 96 points. Characters: Ensign, 3 x drummers,3 x sergeants 78 points. Characters:...

October 2014 - The League of Augsburg

http://leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

The League of Augsburg. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Barry's little Scanian War project part 4 SNO' FAIR. Swedish field gun and crew. not a common sight! OK so perhaps I have taken this too far but I really enjoyed making snow for the 'Lund' period bases in the Scanian War project. For those non British-Scots (I think that's what we are now or is is Scoto- Brits? The title of this post is a little play on Glaswegian. SNO' FAIR is a version of it's no' fair. Or it isnae fair. Meaning of course . I had mad...

Making a floating mortar platform 2 - The League of Augsburg

http://leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.com/2015/08/making-floating-mortar-platform-2.html

The League of Augsburg. Friday, August 14, 2015. Making a floating mortar platform 2. There was some degree of hit or miss with the making of this piece. I am too impatient to measure everything like a craftsman and tend to size things up by sight and judge it. As a result one or two distances are marginally off. I satisfied my OCD by making up the excuse that the Russians constructed the platform in haste and so did not themselves seek perfection, rather functionality. Although I was sorely tempted to g...

Ireland Campaign book...remembering the Quick n' Dirty guides and Mark's Marsh! - The League of Augsburg

http://leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.com/2015/08/ireland-campaign-bookremembering-quick.html

The League of Augsburg. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Ireland Campaign book.remembering the Quick n' Dirty guides and Mark's Marsh! Set up shot for the book. Well actually it's a bog but Mark's Bog sounds like something to do with a toilet and doesn't scan too well! Years ago I did some Quick n' Dirty guides on the website concerning such things as making cotton flags, weathering clothes and similar wargaming distractions. Williamite troops ready themselves to face the BOG. Where are those damned raparees?

Making a floating mortar platform 1 - The League of Augsburg

http://leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.com/2015/08/making-floating-mortar-platform-1.html

The League of Augsburg. Saturday, August 8, 2015. Making a floating mortar platform 1. Sometimes when you get an idea you just have to run with it. I wanted to get back to the kind of creativity which go the League of Augsburg a good reputation in the first place and I have not been able to find the time to indulge that for quite some time. I turned to the ubiquitous raw material which has appeared many times before in my scratch building - the humble cork dinner place mat (used). I was able to turn this.

A Life in Miniature: January 2016

http://a-life-in-miniature.blogspot.com/2016_01_01_archive.html

A Life in Miniature. Friday, 8 January 2016. Painting World War 2 German Armour. For our Christmas game we returned to 20mm and this inspired me to dig out some old projects. Inspired my the forthcoming game I took the opportunity to finish them. Here's a couple of finished shots as a late war German kampfgrupp. Really pleased with the results. The crew really lift the models in my opinion. Panel highlights applied by hand and then a thin oil paint filter applied. Matt varnish then weathering. Download E...

A Life in Miniature: December 2015

http://a-life-in-miniature.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html

A Life in Miniature. Saturday, 12 December 2015. We had an opportunity to try the new Osprey rule set "Black Ops" last Thursday at the Club. A high ranking diplomat had been kidnapped by local rebels some where in Central Asia. The rebels were a mix of poor quality militia, mercenaries and an FSB team on site to interrogate the prisoner. A special forces team supported by regular troops were despatched to rescue him. It looked like they might have got the hostage to a landrover but this was quickly destr...

A Life in Miniature: February 2016

http://a-life-in-miniature.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html

A Life in Miniature. Monday, 8 February 2016. Vapnartak 2016 and Dragon Rampant. Well it's been sometime since my last post. I really must try and blog a bit more regularly. Here's a couple of quick snaps. Knights are on 60mm by 80mm bases. I really like the extra depth which allows a less regular positioning of the figures. For the sharp eyed there are a couple of bases of late medievals in the background but they are for another post. Is it just me who agonises about base sizes? So how was the show?

Napoleon complex gaming: Black Powder: Waterloo

http://napoleon-complex-gaming.blogspot.com/2015/08/black-powder-waterloo.html

A blog about wargaming, miniatures and military history. Narva 1700: A Black Powder Scenario. Bolt Action scenario: Ramelle 1944. Sunday, 9 August 2015. We used the historical set-up. Our scenario was an improved version of the one we used a few years ago to re-fight the battle (the battle report can be found here. Dutch troops hold the ridge. The Anglo-Allied army was mostly deployed on the reverse slope. The French were clearly superior in the amount of heavy cavalry they could field. Napoleon had amas...

Napoleon complex gaming: First post

http://napoleon-complex-gaming.blogspot.com/2015/03/first-post.html

A blog about wargaming, miniatures and military history. Narva 1700: A Black Powder Scenario. Bolt Action scenario: Ramelle 1944. Wednesday, 18 March 2015. Here we go. After long deliberation and much procrastination I have finally got around to setting this blog up. This is the logical next step, given that I've been actively posting pictures of my toy soldiers and stories of their exploits on various forums for many years now. I intend to continue this trend via this blog. Altar of Freedom: Seven Pines.

A blog about wargaming, miniatures and military history. Narva 1700: A Black Powder Scenario. Bolt Action scenario: Ramelle 1944. Monday, 20 April 2015. Altar of Freedom: Seven Pines. On Saturday Antti, Samuli and I gathered at the club to play the battle of Seven Pines with the Altar of Freedom rules. This battle was fought for the control of the Confedereate capital Richmond, which was being threatened in May 1862 by a huge Federal army led by general McClellan. Federal generals surveying the battlefie...

A Life in Miniature: May 2016

http://a-life-in-miniature.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html

A Life in Miniature. Sunday, 8 May 2016. Its Been a Long Time. It's been a long time since I updated the blog with a post. I really need to try and get into the habit of posting at least once a week! So what have I been up to? In order to neatly fit the walls onto a terrain tile they needed to be cut up and joined. The light foam the walls are made of made this really easy and as the walls were to be plastered it was easy to use filler to hide the join. Next the moat had to be carved into the tile and th...

A blog about wargaming, miniatures and military history. Narva 1700: A Black Powder Scenario. Bolt Action scenario: Ramelle 1944. Sunday, 29 March 2015. Altar of Freedom: First Manassas. Rules which have received some praise and seem to fit my gaming style really well (not too complex, fast playing and concentrating on the essential command and control problems rather than micromanagement). Some of my Union troops based for Altar of Freedom. The centre and southern sections of the line. Two of Beaure...
