GOING NOMAD: July 2009

http://leahgoingnomad.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

My Global Travel Blog. Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Flora, Fauna, and Pachamama. The night before my roomates and I left for Santa Marta, we were all sitting around the kitchen table when a giant, winged thing came buzzing into the room and landed on the fridge. Naturally the three extranjeras screamed and shot into the hallway while Maria sat unconcerned. Me: Oh my lord! Maria, that thing is the size of a truck! What on earth is that? Me: That is NOT a cricket. We left at the very reasonable hour of 4:30AM o...

GOING NOMAD: Dr. Seuss Goes Birdwatching

http://leahgoingnomad.blogspot.com/2009/09/dr-seuss-goes-birdwatching.html

My Global Travel Blog. Monday, September 28, 2009. Dr Seuss Goes Birdwatching. We spent Saturday just wandering around Santa Marta, exploring the town and then heading off to the beach. It was hot and steamy, but the water was exactly the right temperature, and cleaner than the water along Cartagena's beaches. Saturday night we had the most amazing Mexican food I've had since the last time I was in California. After that we wandered down to a different beach and made some new friends from our hostel.

GOING NOMAD: August 2009

http://leahgoingnomad.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

My Global Travel Blog. Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Medellin is known most widely as the birthplace and burial place of Pablo Escobar. For those of us who are not loyal fans of HBO's Entourage, or who think that Vinny Chase's bloody portrayal of Señor Escobar may not be entirely accurate, Pablo Escobar. La Feria de las Flores is a two-week long celebration of.you guessed it.flowers! You had me at 'hydrangea.'. We rode the cable car up the hill to watch the sun set,. Went to the Botero. I knew this probabl...

GOING NOMAD: July 2008

http://leahgoingnomad.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

My Global Travel Blog. Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Despite the amount of time we´ve spent on the road thus far, the places we´ve seen more than validate the cramped buses and dusty trains. Our first stop in Bolivia was Uyuni, land of salt flats. We signed up for a two-day tour which would include one night of sleeping in a `salt hotel´. I was a bit skeptical. Two whole days of looking at.salt? I thought it might get a bit old after awhile, but two days turned out to be perfect. Sunday, July 20, 2008. The G...

Dirty Shoes: Uwharrie Mountain Run

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/2011/02/uwharrie-mountain-run.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. Monday, February 7, 2011. At 6:55 am on Saturday morning, the 40-mile Uwharrie runners were still in the drop bag tent, despite the race starting in 5 minutes. Why? The cold temperatures, buckets of raining pouring down, and. well do I really need another reason? If I was planning on running this race, it would be one thing. I'd have adrenaline, the running would keep me warm, and racing in the rain makes sense. Hiking to a DNF does not! But, I was ok with this.

Dirty Shoes: MCM - Halloween edition

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/2010/11/mcm-halloween-edition.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. Monday, November 1, 2010. MCM - Halloween edition. On Sunday, I ran the Marine Corps Marathon for the 3rd time. I wore my friend Ann. S bib, and removed the chip. Yes, this is generally frowned upon but it's not my fault marathons tend to have giant sticks up their ass and charge a ridiculous bib transfer fee. On Saturday night I was inspired to dress up like a zombie. This is why I wanted to do MCM to begin with! You can do it! Brian and I jumped into the start...

Dirty Shoes: Boston Marathon

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/p/boston-marathon.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. The whole point of this blog was to motivate me to qualify for Boston, so I thought I would highlight those posts. I really started talking about Boston when I knew I could qualify for it. In September 2008, I wrote a post that I simply titled I GOT THIS. Then I hurt myself. I qualified at the Marine Corps Marathon. I made a bunch of big plans. And then broke my toe. Boston Marathon entry confirmation. I started training again. And then hurt my IT band. My food ...

Dirty Shoes: Gear recommendations

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/p/gear-recommendations.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. Here is a list of things I use and love. I don't get any money for recommending these because I'm sort of a nobody :). Nathan's woman-specific race vest and hydration pack. Since Nathan's has bad reviews. You can also see the men's styles here. Running Skirts' Ultra Swift Running Skirt (brief). Camelbak Quick-Grip water bottle. I love this water bottle so much, that I have two. It keeps water cold (and beer! And strawberry frozen margaritas! I recommend getting ...

Dirty Shoes: Brittany's Fat Ass

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/2010/07/brittanys-fat-ass.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. Tuesday, July 27, 2010. 31 miles in 100 degree heat? I knew I could use this one as a "stop-whining-look-what-I-did" for at least a few years. Drinking out of a spring instead of a cooler? Post run grill, beer, and body shots? Oh, VHTRC, where have you been all my life? Hanging out with Mark at the race start. Picture courtesy of Bobby Gill. Picture courtesy of Bobby Gill. Best post-race party ever (with ultrarunnergirl. Picture courtesy of Bobby Gill. Nice run ...

Dirty Shoes: Happy birthday, IT-band injury!

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/2011/10/happy-birthday-it-band-injury.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. Thursday, October 27, 2011. Happy birthday, IT-band injury! I am approaching my year anniversary of being injured. Last weekend I went to a wedding with many college friends I haven't seen in over two years. This happened about 7 times: "Not that I stalk you on facebook, but you're like. a crazy runner right? So, twitter and facebook friends, I'm still out, yes, but I'm ok. Really. Promise. Don't go running with people or a group when you're recovering. I was do...

Dirty Shoes: Inaugural WUS Doughnut Run

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/2011/04/inaugural-wus-doughnut-run.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. Friday, April 22, 2011. Inaugural WUS Doughnut Run. We started off at WUS headquarters. 15 minutes late and wearing our new WUS shirts! The 10k/6 doughnut option runners are off! The lonely 5k/12 doughnut runners. We're so legit that we had on-trail photographers! So many more to go. Anna and I were the first ones there, not because we were fast but because we ran 1/2 the distance. Sean couldn't run because he recently shattered his thumb during a tough 50 miler.

Dirty Shoes: Grindstone 100

http://brittanygoesrunning.blogspot.com/2010/10/grindstone-100.html

Everything is more fun when you get dirty. Monday, October 4, 2010. Start/finish line, picture courtesy of Bobby Gill. At the start, picture courtesy of Bobby Gill. The best advice I received was from Quatro, who told me “Don't run 100. Just run from aid station to aid station. It'll be all good - next thing you know, you will find yourself back where you started.” I always did this during ultras, but I had never thought to really only think about each section and nothing. Leah Goes to Japan. Adventures and Misadventures in the Land of the Rising Sun. Please Be Patient m m. July 22, 2013. I have not had much time/wifi access since arriving in the country. Last night I tried to put up as many of my pictures. As possible from the excursion, but I have not had the energy since arriving in my accommodations in Tokyo to post about the fun things we did. Sorry! I’m in JAPAN! July 18, 2013. Last night, after arriving at the hotel and showering, a big BIG group of us took the bus ...

GOING NOMAD

My Global Travel Blog. Saturday, April 23, 2011. I have moved. You may now find me at www.peregrinational.com. Thursday, November 5, 2009. Colombia's government has been on a vigorous "rebranding" spree, painting Colombia as the country of flowers, not the country of guns. Everywhere I went, I saw people with heart pins and bags or t-shirts with the phrase "Colombia es pasion." The phrase works as a response for many situations, such as:. Why is this guava juice so amazing? Porque Colombia es pasion!

One of my favorites…. May 15, 2010. You learn to see by practice. It’s just like playing tennis, you get better the more you play. The more you look around at things, the more you see. The more you photograph, the more you realize what can be photographed and what can’t be photographed. You just have to keep doing it.” – Eliot Porter. Posted by Dr.Gold. In less then ten days…. May 15, 2010. I will be married! Here are few pictures I took on a quick garden break from wedding planning:. Now it is Spring!
