On Friday night, the four of us went out to a pub in Bo Dorp with Alita and Benita, two of the employees at the hospice where the other girls are working. We had a great time, dancing and watching Benita establish herself as a karaoke superstar. Robertson, South Africa. Friday, July 17, 2009. We also toured the cells, and saw a crowded room with 14 bunks. The officials told us that during apartheid, 40 men had slept in the cell—most on the floor. We were also shown the library, classroom, and kitchen, where we tasted the food—cabbage and eggs and porridge. I’d like to say it was decent, but I couldn’t finish it. First thing on Saturday we took the cable car up Table Mountain and were greeted by incredible views. Cape Town is a beautiful city—nestled between the mountain and the ocean.
