1 Year San Francisco-versary - Jayme Alexis

1 Year San Francisco-versary. When I moved to Monterey Bay in the Summer of 2013, I used to make frequent trips to San Francisco. The next Summer, if I wasn't working I was in San Francisco almost every weekend. Every time I left, it was like a sad goodbye because I was in a long distance relationship with San Francisco. So, here I am 1 full year later on my San Francisco-versary in a full on cohabitation relationship with San Francisco. I always say it's amazing what can happen in a year. But it feels d...

It's all too familiar. My same boxes are being re-taped - 8 addresses in 6 years, they're vets at holding my belongings. Yes, it's moving time. It's transition. It's the uprooting from a community of people and things I love in exchange for growth, a new purpose, and serving Christ in a different capacity. This season is familiar, yet unexplored. But this time is different. Every move feels different. As I mentioned, I am concluding an era. I don’t have a single regret of giving so much of my 20...

One of the first questions I get when people find out I am not from California is that they ask if I'll ever move back to South Dakota? Or if I'll ever move back to Southern California? Or this or that. I'm not sure where I'll end up in a year or 10 years. Because everywhere I have ever lived, left, and stayed has felt like home. I loved running through the endless corn fields, gazing under the starry skies, and smelling the sweet clover roaming the prairie of my childhood home. Or winding up the coast t...

2016 - Thank you. A year of getting after it. It wasn't a secret in my life that 2016 was a major upgrade from 2015 for me. You can read about it HERE. I was asked to do reality TV, twice this year. I accepted a role as an Advisor for Fashion and Industrial Design Students at The Academy of Art in San Francisco where I saw my pageant life and New York Fashion week collide. I also was asked to be keynote for the No Frills Conference where I got to talk about a project that was an idea 5 years ago. Getting...

Be your own negotiator. People comment that I am busy. I always say, no my life is full. You can read why I say full instead of busy: BUSY IS A SICKNESS. A mentor told me we are constantly negotiating. We negotiate our relationships, goals, priorities, values, and so forth. And because I love to say yes to TOO many things because I love so many people and projects, I have to negotiate my year, ahead of time. WHO is your home team/tribe/squad? What relationships take precedent this year? These are short (...

Things to NOT say to this transracial adoptee. The day I became an American citizen! All views are my own. Each transracial adoptee. Click for definition) is different. However, after moving around a time or 2 or 10, One of two things inevitably happens. You get to know me well enough you see photos of my family and realize, biologically, we look very different. You are getting to know me and when I say I am from South Dakota and you say, no where are you really from? My Dad is German? How crazy is that?

This is not a phase. Oakland's First Fridays Unity Wall. My view on the Church I attend, my Pastor, or the select people I've connected with on a real level. This is solely part of my journey of Christ, church, and my sense of belonging.and this post has been sitting in my inbox for almost 2 years. 10 years ago I sat in my parents living room and told them that I would respect their wishes to attend church until I was 18, then I wanted to seek my own relationship with God and explore my spiritual life.
